Provided by Alice Hart

Categories     easy, quick, dessert

Time 15m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 5

3 tablespoons mild honey
6 plump figs, trimmed and halved
1 1/2 tablespoons unsalted butter
4 fresh thyme sprigs, plus extra leaves for garnish
4 tablespoons crème fraîche

Steps:

  • Spoon the honey over the cut sides of the figs. Heat a large, heavy skillet over a medium-high flame. Add the butter - it should sizzle briskly when it hits the pan. Throw in the thyme sprigs, followed by the figs, cut sides down. Leave undisturbed for 3 to 5 minutes to caramelize, then turn the figs over and cook for another minute.
  • Transfer the figs to a plate. Return the skillet to the heat and add about 5 tablespoons water. Simmer, scraping the caramelized honey with a spoon. Pour this sauce over the figs and serve warm with generous spoonfuls of crème fraîche and a few extra thyme leaves.

FRESH FIGS WITH HONEY SAUCE

Fresh Figs With Honey Sauce image

Poach fresh figs with honey and spices for an incredible dessert. The sauce is very sweet, add a touch of balsamic vinegar if you prefer something less sweet. Cut a hole in the top of the fig so that the sauce can get inside, and the insides of the fig can combine with the sauce. Note this recipe only works with fresh figs, it will not reconstitute dried figs.

Provided by iqspam

Categories     Dessert

Time 35m

Yield 8 figs with sauce, 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

8 fresh figs
1 1/2 cups water
1/3 cup honey

  • Combine water, honey, cloves and allspice in a pot and bring to a boil.
  • Put figs in the pot and simmer, covered for 15 minutes, until almost done.
  • Remove figs and reduce sauce for 10 minutes.
  • Put the figs back in the sauce and reduce until desired consistency, around 5 more minutes.
  • Stir in balsamic vinegar (if using).

FIGS POACHED IN WHITE WINE AND FRESH THYME

Figs Poached in White Wine and Fresh Thyme image

If you are lucky enough to have a fig tree (or a neighbor with a fig tree) you can have this wonderful dish for the cost of a modest bottle of white wine. If you have neither, the splurge may well be worth it. Non-vegans can top their figs with crème fraiche or whipped cream. Any excess poaching liquid should be saved--it's lovely over almost anything. Cooking time includes half an hour for chilling. From Kitchen Herbs by Sal Gilbertie
