This great family meal also goes over well at potluck suppers. This dish is always scraped clean and I'm asked for the recipe, which my daughter received from a friend.-Helen Kendig, Lawrenceburg, Kentucky

HOT DOGS, SAUERKRAUT, AND POTATOES
This isn't an actual recipe, but it's a description of a meal my mother used to fix many years ago. She made it to use up leftover hot dogs. Recently I saw a similar one on "Zaar but it didn't have the potatoes. The amounts listed are only approximate because I was required to list something.

Steps:
- Boil peeled potatoes (cut in quarters) until tender but not mushy. Drain, and add to the pan the amount of sauerkraut for the number of people you've planned to feed. Also add hot dogs cut into 1 inch pieces. Heat everything, but watch carefully to avoid burning. Add butter if desired. We always ate this with mustard for the sauerkraut and hot dogs.
- The next day my mother would heat leftovers in a frying pan, letting the sauerkraut get brown.

HOT DOGS AND SAUERKRAUT
This is so simple to make but tastes so good! My mom made this for us when we were younger and still a favorite of mine. Smoked sausage could also be used but I prefer the hot dogs. Serve this over mashed potatoes for total comfort food.

SAUERKRAUT & WEINERS
Another staple in our family, this was most always served with fried potatoes (ketchup on the side). I don't recall which day of the week we had this, but it seems that Mother did make it once a week, probably after spending the whole day doing household chores. Photos from:...
