1 16.5-oz. tube sugar cookie dough
1 tube white decorating gel
1 package sugar-coated gum drops
rainbow nonpareils

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350° and line a large rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Bake 16 teaspoon-sized cookies until golden, 12 minutes. About a minute after you pull them out of the oven, gently flatten cookie middles with a shot glass to form a rim. Let cool completely.
  • Add a dollop of decorating gel to the middle of the cookie and place a gumdrop on top. Let set, about 5 minutes. Frost the perimeter of the cookie. Sprinkle entire cookie with nonpareils to coat the gel and shake off excess.

  • Draw a smaller circle. Draw a slightly smaller circle inside it. You can use a compass or find a smaller bowl or round object to make the smaller circle.
  • Draw a pair of perpendicular lines. Draw a pair of perpendicular lines, intersecting at the center of the circles. These perpendicular lines are just guides to help you draw an oval brim.
  • Cut slits around the hole. Cut slits about 1 inch apart. Start cutting from the inner circle to the outer circle.
  • Fold up the fringes. Flip the brim so that the outer circle line and the perpendicular lines are hidden at the bottom side.
  • Cut slits at the outer edge. Next, cut 1-inch long slits about 4 inches apart along the outer edge of the brim.
