2 pints butter pecan ice cream
1 1/2 cups almond milk
1/2 cup high-quality maple syrup
4 chewy pecan clusters, such as Goo Goo Clusters, roughly chopped

Steps:

  • Add the ice cream, almond milk, 1/4 cup of the maple syrup and half of the pecan clusters to a blender and pulse until mostly smooth; there will be still some pecan cluster pieces. Divide among 4 glasses and sprinkle with the remaining maple syrup and pecan clusters.

4 cups oat flour
2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
2 scoops vanilla-flavored whey protein powder

Steps:

  • Line a 9x13-inch baking dish with parchment paper.
  • Combine applesauce, maple syrup, and almond butter in a large mixing bowl. Add oat flour, cinnamon, cocoa, and protein powder; mix until well combined. Spread into the prepared dish.
  • Refrigerate until firm, about 1 hour. Cut into 30 squares and wrap in parchment paper.

This milkshake has extra protein from black beans, the deep chocolate taste is from cacao (not to be confused with cocoa) powder and is dressed up with optional whipped cream, peanuts, and chocolate drizzle. I cannot promise similar results using a standard blender, such as a Ninja®.

2 tablespoons powdered peanut butter (such as PB2®)
1 tablespoon cacao powder
¼ cup black beans, rinsed and drained
½ cup ice

Steps:

  • Combine chocolate almond milk, peanut butter powder, and cacao powder in a high-speed blender (such as Vitamix®). Add black beans and ice. Secure lid into place. Blend on speed variable 1, slowly moving up to the top speed. Blend for 1 minute until ice is incorporated.
  • Pour milkshake into a tall glass.

Why not make something decadent healthy? Pecans are healthy, eggs are healthy, and compared to most other sweeteners maple syrup contains a lot of minerals which are good for you, but less sugar (more liquid). Most special protein rich recipes claim egg whites only, but as a matter of fact the egg yolk is higher in protein, and research has shown that the cholesterol in eggs is NOT the problem with high blood cholesterol levels. Mostly it's the carbohydrates which elevate the cholesterol, not butter, eggs or bacon. Prep time does not include soaking time!

1 tablespoon maple syrup
1 cup water
1 scoop whey protein
2 dates
1 egg

Steps:

  • Soak dates in one cup of water for about two hours.
  • Put soaking water with the dates and pecans in food processor and process until smooth. That may take 2 to 5 minutes.
  • As soon as the nutmilk is smooth, add maple syrup, whey protein and egg. Continue processing until everything is smooth and creamy.
  • Enjoy!
