ASIAN SESAME DRESSING

Asian Sesame Dressing image

A fantastic standby dressing to have on hand because it keeps for 3 weeks! Use this Asian dressing for leafy green salads, Asian slaws, noodle salads and chopped salads. It's also a terrific dressing to make steamed vegetables so much tastier. Finish with a sprinkle of fresh sesame seeds and sliced greens onions!

Time 3m

Number Of Ingredients 10

1/4 cup soy sauce
2 tbsp toasted sesame oil
1/4 cup white vinegar ((adjust to taste for sharpness))
1/4 cup olive oil ((Note 1))
1 tbsp sugar ((any type) or 1 1/2 tbsp honey)
1 tbsp soy sauce
2 tsp toasted sesame oil
1 tbsp white vinegar
1 tbsp olive oil ((Note 1))
1 tsp sugar ((any type) or 1 1/2 tsp honey)

Steps:

  • Place ingredients in a jar and shake well until sugar is dissolved. Adjust saltiness with salt and sweetness with sugar to taste.
  • Keep for up to 3 weeks, in the fridge (to be safe). Bring to room temp and shake well before use.
  • Single serving batch is enough for 3 - 4 cups of shredded cabbage / leafy greens i.e. a side salad for 4 people.
  • Big batch - my rule of thumb for how much dressing to use is generally 1 tbsp of dressing per 1 packed cup of shredded vegetables and 2 tsp per handful of leafy greens.

MEO'S ASIAN SALAD DRESSING

Meo's Asian Salad Dressing image

I use this over chicken salad. I cook the chicken in butter with mushrooms and crush up 1 pkg of Top Ramen (usually oriental or teriyaki flavored). While that's cooking I add about 1/2-1 pkg of the seasoning packet to the chicken mix. I top the salad with chopped cucumbers and mandarin oranges. Very fresh and super simple....mostly because I'm lazy and want shortcuts in the kitchen ;) Oh...and as usual, every ingredient can be adjusted for your sweetness or "soy-ness" (if that's a word lol)

  • Shake.
  • Dip finger and taste -- after you washed your hands, of course!
  • Adjust to your liking.

COOKED MAYONNAISE (SALAD DRESSING)

Cooked Mayonnaise (Salad Dressing) image

This is an old family recipe. We live on the east coast of Canada and this mayonnaise is used in dishes such as lobster salad sandwiches, lobster rolls, potato salad, egg salads and anything else that you would use mayonnaise or salad dressing in. I like it because it is cooked and keeps for quite a while when refrigerated. My grandmothers used to make it for Lobster Suppers that their church used to host.

Time 14m

Yield 2 1/2 cups, 20 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 large beaten eggs
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon dry mustard
1 cup milk (I use skim, but 3% is better)
5 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup vinegar
1/2 cup hot water
1 tablespoon butter (optional) or 1 tablespoon margarine (optional)

Steps:

  • In a microwave safe bowl beat the 2 eggs.
  • Beat in the flour and dry mustard.
  • Stir in the milk, sugar and salt. I use skim milk as I watch fat, but you can use whole milk which makes it a bit richer.
  • In a measuring cup mix together the vinegar and hot water, and add while stirring to the milk mixture in the microwave safe bowl.
  • To stir this mixture I usually use a wire whisk.
  • Microwave at full power for 9 minutes, stirring half way through the cooking time.
  • After the cooking time, add the butter if desired.
