MOM'S BEST SPICED EGGNOG

Mom's Best Spiced Eggnog image

This eggnog recipe was the traditional holiday drink while growing up and now it's the traditional drink in my home. I've tried several nog recipes, but to this day this one is still my favorite. Optional: add brandy or liqueur of choice when serving.

Provided by AdamJenkins

Categories     Drinks Recipes     Eggnog Recipes

Time 20m

Yield 5

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 cup white sugar
¾ teaspoon ground cinnamon, divided
⅛ teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 pinch ground allspice
3 eggs, separated
2 cups milk
1 cup half-and-half

Steps:

  • Combine sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice in a bowl.
  • Whip egg whites with an electric mixer on high speed until soft peaks form. Reduce speed to medium and beat, gradually adding 1/2 of sugar mixture, until stiff peaks form.
  • Beat egg yolks in a separate bowl until thick and lemon colored. Mix remaining sugar mixture into the yolks. Fold yolk mixture into the egg whites. Add milk and half-and-half; combine gently. Garnish with remaining cinnamon.

EGGNOG

Eggnog image

Provided by Ree Drummond : Food Network

Categories     beverage

Time 1h20m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 cups whole milk
1 1/2 cups heavy cream
6 large egg yolks, at room temperature
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon grated nutmeg, plus more for serving
1/2 cup maple syrup
1 cup finely crushed gingersnaps
8 ounces bourbon

Steps:

  • For the eggnog: Heat the milk and cream in a heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium heat until warm.
  • Meanwhile, in a bowl, beat the egg yolks and sugar until light, fluffy and pale in color.
  • Temper the egg yolks by adding a couple ladles of the warm milk/cream mixture into the egg mixture while whisking constantly. Add the mixture back to the pot over medium heat. Continue to cook, gently stirring, until thick, about 5 minutes. Transfer to a separate container and chill for at least 1 hour, then stir in the nutmeg.
  • For the cocktail: When ready to serve, add the maple syrup and crushed gingersnaps to separate small plates. Run the rim of each martini glass in the maple syrup, then dip the rim in the crushed gingersnaps.
  • For each drink, pour 3/4 cup of the eggnog into a cocktail shaker with ice and add 2 ounces of the bourbon. Shake vigorously, then pour into the prepared glass. Sprinkle over a little nutmeg and serve.

PEPPERMINT MOCHA CROCKPOT EGGNOG WITH DIPPING DEER RECIPE BY TASTY

Peppermint Mocha Crockpot Eggnog With Dipping Deer Recipe by Tasty image

Here's what you need: cinnamon stick, semisweet chocolate chips, large egg yolks, granulated sugar, whole milk, heavy cream, Starbucks® Peppermint Mocha Frappuccino®, vanilla extract, freshly grated nutmeg, kosher salt, semisweet chocolate chips, candy canes, candy eyes, red chocolate-covered candies

Provided by Starbucks Frappuccino

Categories     Drinks

Yield 10 servings

Number Of Ingredients 14

1 cinnamon stick
1 tablespoon semisweet chocolate chips, or chocolate shavings
9 large egg yolks
¼ cup granulated sugar
2 cups whole milk
1 ½ cups heavy cream
1 bottle Starbucks® Peppermint Mocha Frappuccino®
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
¼ cup freshly grated nutmeg
1 pinch kosher salt
1 ½ cups semisweet chocolate chips
20 candy canes
20 candy eyes
10 red chocolate-covered candies

Steps:

  • Make the peppermint mocha eggnog: Add the cinnamon stick and chocolate chips to a slow cooker and turn the heat to high.
  • In a large bowl, vigorously whisk together the egg yolks and sugar until well combined. Whisk in the milk, heavy cream, Starbucks® Peppermint Mocha Frappuccino®, vanilla, nutmeg, and salt.
  • Pour the egg mixture into the slow cooker and reduce the heat to low. Cook, whisking occasionally to ensure that the chocolate melts and the eggs do not curdle, for about 3 hours, or until the mixture thickens slightly and the temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
  • Make the dipping deer: Add the chocolate chips to a microwave-safe tall glass or jar. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between, until completely melted, (If you don't have a tall, heatproof vessel, microwave the chocolate chips in a heatproof bowl and pour into a glass or jar once melted).
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Dip the bottom of a candy cane in the chocolate to coat about ⅔ of the way up the shaft (leaving enough of the hook uncovered to look like antlers). Gently shake off any excess chocolate and lay flat on the prepared sheet. Dip a second candy cane, then place directly next to the first candy cane so they hold together with the hooks facing opposite directions. Immediately place 2 candy eyes toward the top of the chocolate-dipped part and one red candy below the eyes to make the nose. Repeat with the remaining ingredients for 10 reindeer total. Transfer the baking sheet to the refrigerator for at least 10 minutes to harden, or until ready to use.
  • Serve the dipping deer alongside the eggnog.
  • Enjoy!

OVERNIGHT EGGNOG

Overnight Eggnog image

For best flavor, make the night before and let the eggnog set overnight to let it cool down and thicken.

Provided by Anna Stadlman

Categories     Eggnog

Time 8h25m

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 8

4 cups whole milk
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 teaspoon ground cloves
12 large egg yolks
1 cup cane sugar
1 pint whipping cream
1 ½ teaspoons ground nutmeg

Steps:

  • Combine milk, cinnamon, vanilla, and cloves in a medium pot over medium-high heat. Cook, stirring every so often, until spices become one with the milk, 3 to 5 minutes. Be sure to stir from the bottom of the pot so the milk doesn't burn.
  • Meanwhile, whisk egg yolks and cane sugar together in a large mixing bowl until pale yellow, thick, and smooth.
  • Remove milk mixture from the stove. Pour some of the hot milk into the egg yolk mixture, whisking quickly to avoid scrambling the eggs. Continue, pouring a little bit at a time and whisking, until all has been added.
  • Pour the mixture back into the pot and place over medium heat. Stir constantly with a spatula until eggnog thickens and becomes light beige in color, about 5 minutes; it should leave a slight film on the spatula. Remove from the heat.
  • Pour whipping cream and nutmeg into a pitcher. Pour eggnog mixture into the whipping cream and mix with the spatula to combine. Place in the refrigerator, 8 hours to overnight for best enjoyment. Stir before serving.
