150ml milk
50ml double cream
zest of 0.5 orange
50g dark chocolate , chopped
25ml orange liqueur

Steps:

  • Heat the milk, cream and orange zest together in a saucepan until simmering then remove from the heat and pour through a sieve into a jug to remove the orange zest. Pour the infused milk mixture back into the pan and add the chocolate, stirring until the chocolate has melted and is really smooth.
  • Put the pan back on the heat to warm through then add the orange liqueur. Pour into a mug and serve.

1 1/2 cups bittersweet chocolate, finely grated
1/2 cup powdered milk
1 orange, zest of
1 pinch cinnamon, to taste
whipped cream (optional)

Steps:

  • Place the milk powder, grated chocolate, orange zest and cinnamon in a large mixing bowl and combine thoroughly.
  • Spoon the mixture into tins or jars. Label with instructions to use 1/2 cup of chocolate mixture with 1 cup of hot milk or water.
  • To make hot chocolate: Pour milk into a saucepan and heat until hot but not boiling. Stir in the hot chocolate mixture and bring to a boil.
  • You can also use a cinnamon stick to stir the hot chocolate. In that case, do not add the ground cinnamon in the recipe.
  • Top with whip cream and enjoy!

1 cup good semisweet chocolate chips
Splash vanilla extract
1 teaspoon sugar, optional
Whipped cream, to serve

Steps:

  • To make the basic hot chocolate, combine the milk with the half-and-half in a small saucepan. Warm over medium-low heat, and then stir in the chocolate chips. Stir until melted (though there will still be lovely particles of chocolate throughout). If it's too chocolaty for you, splash in a little more milk. Add a splash of vanilla extract. If it's not quite sweet enough for you, add 1 teaspoon or so of sugar. Serve in mugs with whipped cream.

Milk chocolate curls (optional)
Orange peel twists (optional)

Steps:

  • Whisk cream and brown sugar in medium bowl until stiff peaks form. Cover and refrigerate whipped cream.
  • Pour milk into heavy large saucepan. Using vegetable peeler, remove peel (orange part only) from 4 oranges. Add peel to milk (reserve oranges for another use). Bring milk mixture to simmer over medium-high heat. Remove from heat. Cover and let steep 30 minutes.
  • Strain milk mixture into large bowl, pressing on solids to remove liquid. Return milk to same saucepan. Bring to simmer over medium-high heat. Add chopped chocolate and cocoa powder; whisk until melted and smooth. Simmer 1 minute, whisking constantly. Ladle hot chocolate into 4 ceramic cups or mugs. Top with whipped cream. Sprinkle with chocolate curls and garnish with orange peel twists, if desired.

1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
3/4 cup heavy whipping cream
1 teaspoon grated orange zest
2-1/2 teaspoons orange extract
1-1/2 cups finely chopped toasted pecans
COATING:
1 cup milk chocolate chips
2 tablespoons shortening

Steps:

  • Place chocolate chips in a bowl; set aside. In a saucepan, bring cream and orange zest to a gentle boil; immediately pour over chips. Let stand for 1 minute; whisk until smooth. Add extract. Cover and chill for 35 minutes or until mixture begins to thicken. , Beat mixture for 10-15 seconds or just until it lightens in color (do not overbeat). Spoon rounded teaspoonfuls onto waxed paper-lined baking sheets. Cover and chill for 5 minutes. , Gently shape into balls; roll half in nuts.   • Make sure the orange is washed well, then use a vegetable peeler to remove the rind from the orange. Combine the orange rind with the milk and cream in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  • Bring the milk mixture to a simmer, and once it’s simmering, remove it from the heat and cover the pan with a lid. Let the mixture sit for at least 30 minutes, and up to 60 minutes—the longer it sits, the more flavorful it becomes.
  • Use a slotted spoon to remove the pieces of orange rind, and add the chopped chocolate and pinch of salt to the saucepan. Place the pan back over medium heat, and whisk often as the mixture heats up. Continue to whisk and cook the hot chocolate until the chocolate is melted and everything is smooth and homogenous.
  • Serve the hot chocolate in small cups, topped with the garnishes of your choice. Whipped cream and chocolate curls are my favorite way to enjoy it!
