MOM'S WARM MILK



Mom's Warm Milk image

When my boys had a hard time getting to sleep I came up with this warm milk to help calm them. Even now, years after they began drinking it, they still enjoy it during homework, or after coming in from a cold day of play. I, too, have enjoyed it after a long day's work. I hope you enjoy this recipe as well for years to come.

1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons white sugar
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg

Steps:

  • In a large mug, stir together the milk, vanilla and sugar. Heat in the microwave on full power for 1 minute and 30 seconds. Stir in nutmeg, and serve hot.

My mother used to make this for me all the time when I was little. When I asked her how she learned to make this she said, "My mother used to make it for me when I was little".

sugar (to taste) or honey (to taste)
milk (a bowl full)

Steps:

  • Warm up a bowl of milk.
  • Set aside.
  • Toast your bread.
  • Spread toasted bread with butter.
  • Tear up the toast and drop it into the warm milk.
  • Dunky, dunky.
  • Sprinkle it with sugar or drizzle it with honey.
  • Yum, yum.

This is very good. It is sort of like French toast but without eggs, and has a milky flavor inside.

¾ cup whole milk
2 tablespoons brown sugar
3 slices white bread
1 tablespoon maple syrup, or to taste

Steps:

  • Stir together milk and sugar in a saucepan until well combined. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, being careful that the milk doesn't burn.
  • Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly. Soak bread in the sweetened milk.
  • Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and quickly brown the soaked bread on both sides. Serve hot with maple syrup.
