MONKEY ON A STICK (MARINATED BEEF STRIPS)

2 lb Lean beef, minced small
1 c. Soy sauce, more as needed
2 x Cloves garlic, chopped
1/2 x Onion, minced small
2 Tbsp. Dark brown sugar

Steps:

  • Slice beef thinly cross-grain (it will slice more easily if partially frzn). Vary marinade ingredients to taste. Place beef strips in a shallow glass container or possibly a ziploc bag along with marinade ingredients. Marinate overnight to 2 days, stirring occasionally or possibly turning bag to mix. Thread beef on to wooden skewers and cook over very warm charcoal. Serve while still warm with rice and oriental vegetables, or possibly just as an hors d'ourve.

This recipe goes real well with my Lumpia recipe. This came from the same party as the Lumpia did. Awesome, tender and very tasty. No monkeys were harmed in any way in the preparation of this recipe. Enjoy!

3 lbs boneless pork loin roast, cut in long 1/2 inch thick strips
12 ounces carbonated lemon-lime beverage, 7 UP (use only 7UP. not diet)
12 ounces soy sauce
15 garlic cloves, sliced
wooden skewer

Steps:

  • Mix 7UP, soy sauce and garlic in a large bowl.
  • Place pork loin strips in bowl.
  • Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  • Weave meat on skewers.
  • Grill until done. For me, it takes about 15 minute to cook.
  • Delicious!

1 beef flank steak (1-1/2 pounds)
1/2 cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
1/4 cup water
2 tablespoons molasses
2 teaspoons ground mustard
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Steps:

  • Freeze steak for 1-1/2 hours. Cut diagonally into 1/4-in. slices. In a small bowl, combine the remaining ingredients. Pour 1/4 cup into another small bowl for basting; cover and refrigerate. Pour remaining marinade into shallow dish; add beef. Turn to coat; cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours., Drain and discard marinade. Thread beef ribbon-style on 12 metal or soaked wooden skewers. Using long-handled tongs, moisten a paper towel with cooking oil and lightly coat the grill rack., Grill beef, covered, over medium heat or broil 4 in. from the heat for 3-4 minutes on each side or until meat reaches desired doneness(for medium, a thermometer should read 140°; medium-well 145°), basting frequently with reserved marinade.
