PEAR CRUMBLE

Pear Crumble image

ORIGINALLY a pear crumble pie, I shortened this to a crumble when I often was too short of time to make a pie crust. I've also found canned pears work as well as fresh, so that makes it even easier to prepare. -Kezia Sullivan, Sackets Harbor, New York

BAKED PEAR CRUMBLE RECIPE BY TASTY

Baked Pear Crumble Recipe by Tasty image

Here's what you need: quick oat, hazelnuts, walnuts, unsweetened shredded coconut, dried cherry, flax seed, ground cinnamon, kosher salt, coconut oil, honey, vanilla extract, ripe pears, whipped topping

Provided by Mercedes Sandoval

Categories     Bakery Goods

Yield 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 cup quick oat
½ cup hazelnuts
½ cup walnuts
½ cup unsweetened shredded coconut
⅓ cup dried cherry
2 tablespoons flax seed
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon kosher salt
¼ cup coconut oil, melted
3 tablespoons honey, plus more for drizzling
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
4 ripe pears, such as Bosc, D'Anjou or Barlett
whipped topping, of choice, for serving

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350˚F (180˚C).
  • In a food processor, combine the oats, hazelnuts, walnuts, shredded coconut, cherries, flax seeds, cinnamon, and salt. Pulse until finely ground.
  • Add the coconut oil, honey, and vanilla, and pulse until just combined. The mixture should hold together when squeezed between your fingers.
  • Cut the pears in half lengthwise. Using a tablespoon, scoop out the cores. With a paring knife, cut a "v" shape around the edges of the stem, cutting downward on an angle. Remove the stems.
  • Set the pears in a baking dish, cut-side up. Fill each with ¼ cup (30 grams) of the crumble topping, pressing lightly into the pears.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the pears are tender when pierced with a paring knife.
  • Serve immediately, topped with whipped topping and a drizzle of honey, if desired.
  • Enjoy!

PEAR AND RAISIN CRUMBLE

Pear and Raisin Crumble image

This is from the March 2008 issue of Bon Appetit magazine. I had picked up 5 pounds of fresh pears at Sam's Club and decided that a simple dessert was in order. Being a non-baker, the simpler the better, and this recipe really suits my no-fuss style without compromising flavor. Such a comfort served warm with vanilla ice cream.

Provided by Ms B.

Categories     Dessert

Time 50m

Yield 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 1/2 lbs pears, peeled, quartered, cored, cut into 1/3-inch-thick slices
1/3 cup dark brown sugar, packed
2 tablespoons ginger snaps, crushed
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup dark brown sugar, packed
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
6 tablespoons butter, chilled, diced
4 tablespoons ginger snaps, crushed

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400°F Mix pears, 1/3 cup sugar, 2 tablespoons crushed cookies, and 1 teaspoon cinnamon in 11x7x2-inch glass baking dish. Mix in raisins.
  • Using fingertips (I was resistant to this instruction and tried to use just a fork to combine the ingredients, but finally gave in and use my fingertips with great success. The butter needs the slight warmth of your hands to combine well with the dry stuff.), press together flour, butter, 1/2 cup sugar, and 1 teaspoon cinnamon in large bowl until moist clumps form. Mix in 4 tablespoons crushed cookies.
  • Drop topping evenly over filling. Bake until juices bubble thickly and topping is brown, about 30 minutes.

1 1/2 cups chopped dried cranberries
1 cup granulated sugar

Butter, softened, for buttering the baking dish

CARAMELISED PEAR, RUM & COCONUT CRUMBLE

Caramelised pear, rum & coconut crumble image

Try this grown-up take on a crumble. Pears stand up well to a nutty crumble topping, while the rum cuts through the sweetness. Enjoy with clotted cream

Provided by Esther Clark

Categories     Dessert

Time 50m

Number Of Ingredients 14

2 lemons, juiced
1 tbsp cornflour
6 ripe pears, peeled, halved and cored
100g light brown soft sugar
3 tbsp spiced rum
30g unsalted butter
120g plain flour
80g cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
40g light brown soft sugar
30g desiccated coconut
40g shaved coconut
40g almonds, roughly chopped
½ tsp ground cinnamon
clotted cream, to serve

Steps:

  • Heat the oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6. Mix the lemon juice and cornflour together in a small bowl. Tip this into a medium ovenproof dish with the pears, sugar and rum. Dot over the butter and bake for 20-25 mins until the pears are soft, tossing halfway through.
  • For the topping, rub the flour and butter together in a bowl between your fingertips until the mixture is a coarse breadcrumb-like texture. Stir through the sugar, both types of coconut, the almonds, cinnamon and ½ tsp sea salt flakes. Spread the mixture over a baking tray and bake for 10-15 mins until golden and crunchy. Sprinkle the topping over the pears, then bake for another 10-15 mins. Leave to cool slightly, then serve warm in bowls with clotted cream.
