- Place first five ingredients on a double thickness of cheesecloth. Gather corners of cloth to enclose spice mixture; tie securely with string., Place cider and spice bag in a 3-qt. slow cooker. Cook, covered, to allow flavors to blend, 2-3 hours. Discard spice bag. If desired, stir in rum.

- In a large saucepan, combine the apple cider, cinnamon sticks, lemon zest and nutmeg. Insert a clove into each apple slice; add to cider., Bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for 1 minute. Discard lemon zest strip. Ladle into mugs.

Warms hearts and souls! A soothing drink to unwind with! Sometimes I add a tablespoon or two of orange juice concentrate just for a change! Adapted from Country Living magazine and tweaked a little. This may easily be halved or even quartered.

- In a 3 quart saucepan, combine cider, orange juice concentrate if using, sugar, cinnamon sticks, allspice berries, ginger, and cloves.
- Heat to a simmer and allow to cook 20 minutes.

- In a large pot over medium heat, add the apple cider. Stir in the brown sugar, allspice and nutmeg until the sugar is dissolved and bring to a low boil.
- Stick the pointy ends of the cloves into the orange so that just the buds of the cloves are visible. The entire orange should be covered with the cloves.
- Add the orange to the cider and reduce the heat to simmer. Cover and continue cooking for 20 minutes.
- Serve in warm mugs with a cinnamon stick garnish. For adults, add bourbon to the cider.

- With a toothpick, poke holes all around the orange, about 1/2 inch to 1 inch apart. Carefully poke the cloves into the toothpick holes in the orange.

- Take large jug of apple cider and pour into large pot on the stove (or into the crockpot if you don't want to use a burner) Heat to a simmer.
- Then add the following ingredients to cider: orange juice concentrate,cinnamon,nutmeg,ginger and cloves.
- Sometimes I add the cranberry juice cocktail but you may leave it out if you wish.
- Let it all simmer for awhile (half an hour at least) The smell wafting through the house while the cider is simmering is simply heaven.
- Serve the hot spiced cider in mugs.
- For a nice touch,add a whole cinnamon stick to each mug.
- Having a large pot of cider simmering on the stove when company arrives is a sure way to make them very happy that they chose to come over to your house.
