Cinnamon Poached Apples image

For a lighter holiday dessert, try these spicy and sweet apples. They're refreshing served chilled, but my family also likes them served warm.

Yield 6 servings.

Number Of Ingredients 4

2 cups sugar
2 cups water
1/4 cup red-hot candies
6 small tart apples, peeled and cored

Steps:

  • In a large saucepan, bring the sugar, water and red-hots to a boil. Cook and stir until red-hots are dissolved, about 5 minutes. Reduce heat; carefully add apples. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes or just until apples are tender, turning once., With a slotted spoon, remove apples to a large bowl. Bring syrup to a boil; cook, uncovered, until reduced to about 1-1/2 cups. Cool. Pour syrup over apples; cover and refrigerate until serving.

Pressure Cooker Spiced Apples Recipe - These soft and silky cinnamon "baked" apples are made in minutes with an electric pressure cooker.

3 pounds firm Granny Smith apples
1/2 cup Nature's Nectar Apple Cider, (sparkling or still)
3 tablespoons SimplyNature Organic Brown Sugar
2 tablespoons Countryside Creamery Unsalted Butter
1 tablespoon SimplyNature Organic Ground Cinnamon
1 teaspoon Stonemill Vanilla Extract
1/4 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • Peel the apples, core, and cut into wedges. 8-10 wedges per apple.
  • Place all the ingredients in an electric pressure cooker. Stir to coat the apples.
  • Lock the lid into place and close the steam valve.
  • Set the digital pressure cooker to "steam" or pressure cook for 1 minute. (The pressure cooker will take several minutes to heat before the timer starts.)
  • Once the timer goes off, release the steam valve and wait for the safety button to drop. Carefully open the lid.
  • Gently stir the apples. Then serve warm as a side dish with chicken or pork chops, or as a topping for ice cream or pound cake.

8 Granny Smith apples
2 tablespoons white sugar
1 teaspoon lemon juice
¼ cup cinnamon red hot candies

Steps:

  • Peel, core, and slice apples.
  • Place all ingredients in microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high for 15 minutes, stirring each 5 minutes.
  • Cover with plastic wrap and let cool or serve warm.

1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 tablespoon cornstarch
3 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
6 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and cut into eighths
1/4 cup butter, cubed

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, mix the first 5 ingredients. Place apples in a greased 5-qt. slow cooker; add sugar mixture and toss to coat. Top with butter. Cook, covered, on low 3-4 hours or until apples are tender, stirring halfway through cooking.

1/8 teaspoon each of ground cinnamon, ground cloves, ground nutmeg and freshly ground pepper
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon ground pepper
1 quart apple cider
1/2 cup white wine
2 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and cored, each cut into 8 pieces lengthwise, each piece carved into a half moon

Steps:

  • Mix the spices together.
  • In a saucepan, combine the spices, apple cider and wine and bring to a boil. Simmer gently for 5 minutes. Add the apples, take the pan off the heat and set aside at room temperature for up to 2 hours before serving with the duck.
