SLOPPY JOE BURGERS

Sloppy Joe Burgers image

The hamburger entree came from my mother, who is a real down-to-center country cook. Because it calls for a can of soup, there's no fussing. The filling can also double as a flavorful baked potato topping.-Leann Jasper, Newmarket, Ontario

SCHOOL HOUSE SPOON BURGERS

School House Spoon Burgers image

It took a long time for me to come up with this recipe. It tastes just like the ones they made in school. Onions and green peppers, and lots of other ingredients that make this burger so special. After having this, you will never have sloppy joe from the can again, and the ingredients are things you probably have in your kitchen...

Provided by April Huff

Categories     Burgers

Time 4h10m

Number Of Ingredients 10

3 lb ground beef
1/2 c ketsup
2 Tbsp honey mustard
2 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
4 oz tomato paste
1 1/2 large onion, minced
1/2 medium green bell pepper, minced
1/2 c brown sugar, firmly packed
1 Tbsp molasses
water

Steps:

  • 1. In crock pot, add uncooked ground beef and cook on med heat until almost browned (still has pink here and there.)
  • 2. Add onions, green peppers and garlic and cook till fully browned. Drain and return to pot. I think it is much better when the onions and peppers are pureed and undrained
  • 3. Add tomato paste, ketsup, honey mustard, brown sugar, and molasses. mix well.
  • 4. Add water until the meat is almost fully covered. Reduce heat to med, cover, stirring occasionally, for about 3 hours or until all the water has evaporated.
  • 5. Serve on a nice soft toasted bun. Once you have these you wont be able to get enough!! Enjoy :)

BACON CHEESEBURGER SLIDER BAKE

Bacon Cheeseburger Slider Bake image

I created this dish to fill two pans because these cheeseburger sliders disappear fast. Just cut the slider burgers recipe in half if you want to make only one batch. -Nick Iverson, Denver, Colorado

Provided by Taste of Home

Categories     Appetizers     Lunch

Time 45m

Yield 2 dozen.

Number Of Ingredients 16

2 packages (17 ounces each) Hawaiian sweet rolls
4 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
2 pounds ground beef
1 cup chopped onion
1 can (14-1/2 ounces) diced tomatoes with garlic and onion, drained
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
3/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon pepper
24 bacon strips, cooked and crumbled
GLAZE:
1 cup butter, cubed
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
4 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
2 tablespoons sesame seeds

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°. Without separating rolls, cut each package of rolls horizontally in half; arrange bottom halves in 2 greased 13x9-in. baking pans. Sprinkle each pan of rolls with 1 cup cheese. Bake until cheese is melted, 3-5 minutes., In a large skillet, cook beef and onion over medium heat until beef is no longer pink and onion is tender, breaking beef into crumbles, 6-8 minutes; drain. Stir in tomatoes, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper. Cook and stir until combined, 1-2 minutes., Spoon beef mixture evenly over rolls; sprinkle with remaining cheese. Top with bacon. Replace tops. For glaze, in a microwave-safe bowl, combine butter, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce and mustard. Microwave, covered, on high until butter is melted, stirring occasionally. Pour over rolls; sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake, uncovered, until golden brown and heated through, 20-25 minutes. Freeze option: Cover and freeze unbaked sandwiches; prepare and freeze glaze. To use, partially thaw in refrigerator overnight. Remove from refrigerator 30 minutes before baking. Preheat oven to 350°. Pour glaze over buns and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake sandwiches as directed, increasing time by 10-15 minutes, until cheese is melted and a thermometer inserted in center reads 165°.
