Taco Ring image

Make this taco crescent ring, a beautiful presentation of a classic tex-mex favorite. Perfect for potlucks, parties, or weeknight dinners, everyone loves it!

1 pound ground beef (lean, Note 3)
½ yellow onion (diced)
2 tablespoons taco seasoning
½ cup water
¼ cup salsa
½ cup refried beans
1 cup shredded Mexican cheese blend (or cheddar cheese)
2 cans total 16-oz refrigerated crescent rolls (separated into 16 triangles, Note 1)

Steps:

  • Heat a skillet on medium high heat, and brown the beef. Drain fat.
  • Add onion, cook until it's translucent (about 3 minutes).
  • Add taco seasoning and water, bring to boil then simmer uncovered for 4-5 minutes or until the water has evaporated and the mixture has thickened.
  • Remove from heat, stir in salsa.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F/190°C
  • To assemble the taco ring, spray a baking sheet with non stick spray. Arrange and overlap the wide sides of the crescent roll triangles to form a ring. It will look like a sun.
  • Spread the refried beans around the inside of the dough ring, followed by the beef mixture, and cheese. See note 4.
  • Fold the triangles over the filling and tuck under the wider sides.
  • Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until the ring is lightly browned.
  • Allow to cool for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.

1 package (1 oz) Old El Paso™ taco seasoning mix
1/2 cup water
1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese (4 oz)
2 cans (8 oz) refrigerated Pillsbury™ Original Crescent Rolls (8 Count)
Shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes, sliced ripe olives, taco sauce or salsa, as desired

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 375°F. In 10-inch nonstick skillet, cook beef until no longer pink. Add taco seasoning mix and 1/2 cup water. Simmer 3 to 4 minutes or until slightly thickened. In medium bowl, mix beef mixture and cheese.
  • Unroll both cans of dough; separate into 16 triangles. On ungreased large cookie sheet, arrange triangles in ring so short sides of triangles form a 5-inch circle in center. Dough will overlap. Dough ring should look like the sun.
  • Spoon beef mixture on the half of each triangle closest to center of ring.
  • Bring each dough triangle up over filling, tucking dough under bottom layer of dough to secure it. Repeat around ring until entire filling is enclosed (some filling might show a little).
  • Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until dough is golden brown and thoroughly baked. Cool 5 to 10 minutes before cutting into serving slices.

This is quick and easy and the kids will love it. Serve with lettuce, tomatoes, and the rest of the sour cream and cheese. Add salsa for a zing!

1 pound ground beef
¾ cup water
1 package taco seasoning mix
1 (8 ounce) package shredded Cheddar cheese, divided
8 ounces sour cream, divided
2 (8 ounce) packages refrigerated crescent rolls

Steps:

  • Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir beef in the hot skillet until browned and crumbly, 5 to 7 minutes; drain and discard grease. Mix water and taco seasoning mix into ground beef; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer, stirring occasionally, until water is evaporated, 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Mix ground beef mixture, 1/2 of the Cheddar cheese, and 1/2 of the sour cream together in a bowl.
  • Roll crescent roll dough out onto a baking stone in the shape of a sunflower, with the triangle points pointing outward. Spread ground beef mixture onto dough in a circular shape. Wrap pointed end of dough around the beef mixture, sealing to the other end of dough making a ring-shape.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown, about 25 minutes. Serve alongside the remaining Cheddar cheese and sour cream.

This is a family favorite. We love tacos but out of season we are unable to get good veggies to make regular tacos and it looks pretty when complete. I did see a similar recipe online but the ingredients I have are a little different, mostly qty. So I guess it is up to you which you use.

5/8 lb ground beef
1 1/4 ounces taco seasoning
1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
2 tablespoons water
16 ounces crescent rolls
1 medium green pepper
1 cup salsa
3 cups lettuce, shredded
1 medium tomatoes
1/4 cup onion, chopped
1/2 cup black olives (optional)
sour cream (optional)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375.
  • Brown ground beef and drain off the grease.
  • combine ground beef, taco seasoning, cheese and water.
  • Unroll crescent rolls, seperate into triangles.
  • Arrane triabgles in a circle on 13" baking stone with wide ends overlapping in center and points towards outside (there should be a 5" diameter opening triangle).
  • Using medium stainless steel scoop, scoop meat mixture evenly onto widest end of each triangle
  • Bring points of triangles up over filling and tuck under wide ends of doughat center of ring (filling will not be completely covered.
  • Bake 20-25 minutes.
  • Cut up the rest of the veggies and prepare to top your taco ring when done baking.

My husband gave me this recipe one night to make and like most recipes I changed it and did my own thing. I like it a lot better. The flavor component is slightly different from other taco rings but still delicious and very easy to make.

2 (8 ounce) packages crescent rolls
1 (1 1/4 ounce) package taco seasoning
3/4 cup refried beans, any variety
1 lb lean ground beef
4 ounces cream cheese
2 tablespoons hot sauce
1/2 cup salsa, any variety
lettuce, to serve (optional)
tomatoes, to serve (optional)
sour cream, to serve (optional)
olive, to serve (optional)

Steps:

  • Unroll all crescent dough sections. place in a circle, on a baking sheet or stone, with the short ends facing in and the same direction overlapping by almost half. It will look like a fancy sun.
  • Spread the refried beans around the circle and a little up each dough section if possible. Just make sure the layer is fairly thin. You may want to season the beans with salt at this point if they are very plain.
  • Brown the groud beef. Add the taco seasoning and the cream cheese and mix thoroughly until the cheese melts then add the salsa and heat until some of the liquid evaporates. Add the hot sauce.
  • Spoon the beef mixture over the refried beans. If you dare, add a little more hot sauce at this point!
  • To close the circle, bring each point of each crescent roll section in to the center and tuck under the ring to secure. I use a metal spatula to make this step easier and to prevent messes.
  • Bake the taco ring in a preheated 350 degree oven for about 30 minutes or until the crescent dough is golden brown. Serve with the optional fixings, if you like.
