350 g roasted peanuts ((salted or unsalted))

Steps:

  • Place the peanuts into the TM bowl.
  • Chop for 10 seconds on Speed 4.
  • Scrape down the sides.
  • Mix for a further 10 seconds on Speed 4 (check if it's the consistency you would like).
  • Scrape down the sides.
  • For a smooth peanut butter, slowly increase to Speed 7 for 1-2 minutes (scraping down the sides every 30 seconds).
  • Store in an airtight container in the fridge.

500g dry roasted peanuts, note 1

Steps:

  • For crunchy peanut butter, weigh 50g of the peanuts into the Thermomix bowl, and turbo pulse so the peanuts are broken up into tiny pieces. Transfer to a bowl and put aside.
  • Add the remaining peanuts to the Thermomix bowl and grind for 1 min/speed 9. For smooth peanut butter, simply add all the peanuts at once to the Thermomix bowl and grind for 1 min/speed 9.
  • Scrape down the bowl and grind for 2 mins/speed 5.
  • Scrape down the bowl and grind for 1 min/speed 5.
  • For crunchy peanut butter, add the reserved chopped peanuts to the Thermomix bowl and mix for 5 sec/reverse/speed 3 until combined.
  • Transfer to a jar or container and allow to cool before sealing the lid.
  • Store the peanut butter in the fridge for 2-3 months.

I recently purchased a Thermomix, 2 years after my last one finally broke (it was old and well-used). I'm so happy to have one again - it was like having an arm cut off being without one. I thought that I'd be able to do many of the things I used to do with it in my food processor - WRONG! No, I couldn't. Anyway, I'm thrilled to have one again, and it's getting heavy duty usage. I figured that it would be ideal for making homemade peanut butter, and a quick search turned up the following recipe from http://www.kidsinperth.com/htm/KIP%20104/Health&Sport&Nutrition.htm - an article by Thermomix in Australia.

500 g roasted unsalted peanuts
sugar

Steps:

  • If using sugar to sweeten, pulverise the sugar first for 20 seconds on turbo.
  • Add peanuts to the bowl and cook for 10 minutes at 100oC on speed 2.
  • This results in a chunky peanut paste.
  • Spoon into a jar and seal.
  • For a smoother consistency continue with the following.
  • Pulverise for 30 seconds on speed 7. Continue with this action until you attain the desired consistency.
  • Spoon into a jar and seal.
  • Will last 14-21 days in the refrigerator.
