Time 20m

Yield 12

Number Of Ingredients 7

4 egg yolks
4 tablespoons distilled white vinegar
2 tablespoons white sugar
¾ teaspoon prepared mustard
½ teaspoon salt
16 large marshmallows, halved
1 cup heavy whipping cream

Steps:

  • On top of a double boiler, beat together the egg yolks, vinegar, sugar, mustard and salt. Cook over medium heat until mixture becomes thick. Remove from heat. Add the marshmallows to the mixture and stir until dissolved.
  • Whip 1/2 pint of the whipping cream until soft peaks form, and then fold it into the cooked ingredients. If mixture is too thick, thin it by adding a little cream or fruit juice. Add to your favorite fruit salad and use enough dressing to make it the consistency you desire.
  • Store dressing, tightly covered, in the refrigerator for a week or so.

THE BEST GLAZED FRUIT SALAD!

The BEST Glazed Fruit Salad! image

What a delightful fruit salad! The orange marmalade glaze is sweet but has a little bit of tang from the lemon. This was great at room temperature, but even better after it sat in the fridge for a few hours and the flavors blended together. We had some extra strawberries so we threw them in too. So yummy!

Categories     Other Desserts

Time 15m

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 can(s) pineapple, chunks, reserve all the juice
2-3 bananas
1 bunch red seedless grapes
1/2 pt blueberries
1 jar(s) small jar maraschino cherries, drained
any other fruit you would like to add
4 Tbsp sugar
4 tsp cornstarch
4 tsp orange marmalade or apricot preserves
2 tsp lemon juice

Steps:

  • 1. Drain pineapple, reserve all juice.
  • 2. In a small bowl, combine all your fruit. I always squirt some lemon juice over my bananas before adding so they don't get brown and yucky looking. Set aside.
  • 3. In a small saucepan, combine the sugar, cornstarch, and reserved pineapple juice. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, and simmer till thickened. Remove from heat and add the marmalade or preserves and the lemon juice.
  • 4. Let cool for a couple of minutes, then pour the glaze over your fruit and toss gently to coat. Keep in the fridge. It won't last long!!

14 WAYS TO EASILY ELEVATE YOUR FRUIT SALAD - THE DAILY MEAL

From thedailymeal.com
  • Add a little fruit juice. One of the best ways to amp up your fruit salad is also one of the simplest. Fruit has a nasty habit of browning quickly once it's sliced, thanks to the oxidation process that occurs when their interior enzymes are exposed to air.
  • Use fruits that are in season. Fruit salad is the ultimate in fresh desserts, and few sweet course dishes are likely to feel as vibrant. But if you want your fruit salad to sing, you're far better off opting for plants that are in season.
  • Brighten it up with a simple syrup. In most situations, fruit salad is sweet enough to be plated up without any additions. But while this salad doesn't necessarily need a dressing, there are times when the fruit you're using is a little too tart and needs some outside help.
  • Add your favorite herbs. While a medley of different fruits can create dynamic flavors, there's no escaping the fact that the base notes of fruits are sweetness and acidity.
  • Create a smoky flavor through grilling. The grill isn't just for savory food. If you're busting out the grill for a summer barbecue, try saving a portion of it for your sweet items.
