3/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon granulated sugar
1 stick plus 3 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
1/4 to 1/3 cup ice water
1/2 cup packed light-brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 stick cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
1 cup walnuts, coarsely chopped
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Pinch of salt
16 ounces sour cream
2 eggs, room temperature, lightly beaten
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
6 Golden Delicious apples (about 2 1/2 pounds), peeled, cored, and sliced into 1/4-inch wedges

Steps:

  • Make the pie dough: Combine flour, salt, and granulated sugar in a food processor, and pulse to blend. Add butter, pulsing until pea-size clumps form. With machine running, add water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until mixture just comes together. Shape dough into a disk. Wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate until firm, about 45 minutes.
  • Roll out dough into a 15-inch round (1/4 inch thick) on a lightly floured surface. Fit into a 10-inch pie plate. Trim edge, leaving a 1/2-inch overhang, and fold under, pressing onto rim of pie plate. Use your fingers to create a scalloped edge if desired. Refrigerate until firm, about 1 hour.
  • Make the crumb topping: Whisk together sugars, flour, cinnamon, and salt. Add butter, and combine with a fork or pastry cutter. Stir in walnuts, and press filling into large clumps with your hands; refrigerate until ready to use.
  • Preheat oven to 450 degrees with 2 racks in lower third.
  • Make the filling: Whisk together granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, and salt in a large bowl. Stir in sour cream, eggs, and vanilla until thoroughly combined. Add apples, tossing to coat. Place apple mixture in crust.
  • Place an empty rimmed baking sheet on lowest oven rack to catch any drips, then bake pie 10 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 350 degrees, and bake until apples are golden brown in places, juices are bubbling, and crust is golden brown, about 45 minutes.
  • Remove topping from refrigerator, and crumble over hot filling. Bake until topping is browned and set, apples are tender, and bottom crust is thoroughly baked, about 50 minutes. Let cool completely on a wire rack, 3 to 4 hours.

  • Preheat oven to 375°. On a lightly floured surface, roll dough to a 1/8-in.-thick circle; transfer to a 9-in. pie plate. Trim crust to 1/2 in. beyond rim of plate; flute edge. Refrigerate 30 minutes., In a large bowl, beat eggs. Add sour cream. Stir in sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, vanilla and salt; mix well. Gently stir in apples. Pour into crust. 1 recipe pastry for a 9 inch single crust pie
⅓ cup white sugar
⅓ cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • Stir together 2 tablespoons flour, salt, 3/4 cup sugar and nutmeg in bowl. Combine egg, sour cream and vanilla in another bowl; mix well. Add egg mixture to dry ingredients; mix well. Stir in apples and spoon mixture into unbaked pie shell.
  • Bake in a preheated 400 degree F (205 degrees C) oven 15 minutes.

A fantastic dessert for fall or the holidays, it has a sweet, creamy filling that surrounds the apples. We loved the crunchy walnut crumble sprinkled on top. From the first bite to the last, this apple pie is out of this world!

1 refrigerated pie crust
FILLING
1 1/4 c sour cream
3/4 c sugar
1/4 c self-rising flour
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 egg
6 c baking apples, peeled and cut into 1/4 inch slices
TOPPING
1/2 c self-rising flour
1/2 c chopped walnuts
1/4 c sugar
1/4 c light brown sugar
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
3 Tbsp cold butter or margarine

Steps:

  • 1. Heat oven to 400F. Unroll pie crust in a 9-inch pie plate as directed on box for one crust filled pie.
  • 2. Press crust into the pie plate and, using a fork, poke holes in the crust.
  • 3. In a large bowl, beat sour cream, granulated sugar, flour, vanilla, and egg with a wire whisk until well blended.
  • 4. Stir in apples.
  • 5. Pour into crust-lined pie plate.
  • 6. Bake 15 minutes. Reduce temperature to 350 F and bake 30 minutes longer.
  • 7. Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, mix all topping ingredients except butter.
  • 8. With a pastry blender or fork, cut in butter until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs.
  • 9. Refrigerate until ready to use.
  • 10. Sprinkle topping over pie.
  • 11. Bake 20 to 25 minutes longer or until topping is golden brown.
  • 12. Cool completely on a wire rack, about 2 hours. Cover and refrigerate any remaining pie.

1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup flour
1 cup coarsely chopped walnuts
5 tablesoons melted butter

Steps:

  • Crust: Sift flour, sugar, salt and cinamon in bowl. Cut in butter. Add enough apple cider or Calvados to hold dough together. Form into a ball. Flatten slightly and roll on lightly floured surface. Put into a 9" deep pie pan. Filling: Pare and thinly slice aples. Mix eggs, sour cream, sugar, salt, flour and vanilla. Add to apples and toss to coat. Lightly spoon into crust. Bake 10 minutes at 450 degrees. Reduce to 350 degrees and bake an additional 40-45 minutes.
