This delicious Asian marinade is delicious on anything grilled! Use as marinade up to 24 hours prior to cooking a grilled meat, or simply douse the meat just before grilling.

¼ cup rice vinegar
2 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons sesame oil
2 teaspoons minced garlic
1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger root
1 tablespoon chopped green onion or shallot
1 tablespoon raw sesame seeds
½ teaspoon ground pepper

Steps:

  • Whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, green onion, sesame seeds, and pepper until the honey has dissolved.

3 lbs boneless skinless chicken breasts (or boneless country pork spare ribs)
1-2 tablespoons oil (avocado oil, canola oil, olive oil)
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/2 cup ketchup
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup lemon juice
1 tablespoon oyster sauce
1 tablespoon garlic paste
1 tablespoon ginger paste
1 teaspoon sesame oil
pinch crushed red pepper
* sesame seeds and cilantro for garnish

Steps:

  • Cut chicken into small pieces (2-3 inches by 1 inch thick)
  • Place the chicken and the soy sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, lemon juice, oyster sauce, garlic, ginger, and sesame oil into a gallon-sized zipper bag,
  • Marinade in the fridge for at least an hour.
  • Heat a cast-iron skillet and cook the chicken until it's fully cooked 165° and slightly charred, don't overcrowd the pan if using a skillet (you could bake the chicken at 425 degrees on a foil-lined pan if desired)
  • Serve with rice, rice noodles, and vegetables, as an appetizer, and top the chicken with sesame seeds and cilantro.

⅓ cup soy sauce
⅓ cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons lime juice
2 tablespoons orange juice
1 tablespoon Thai-style sweet chili sauce
1 teaspoon chile-garlic sauce (such as Sriracha®)
3 cloves garlic, minced
¼ teaspoon curry powder
4 skinless, boneless chicken thighs

Steps:

  • Place the soy sauce, brown sugar, lime juice, orange juice, sweet chili sauce, chili-garlic sauce, garlic, and curry powder in a large plastic zipper bag. Seal and knead the bag with your fingers to mix all the ingredients and dissolve the sugar. Place the chicken thighs into the marinade, squeeze out the air from the bag, zip the bag closed, and refrigerate for 4 hours or overnight.
  • Preheat an outdoor grill for medium-low heat; lightly oil the grate.
  • Remove the chicken from the bag, pour the excess marinade into a small saucepan, and bring to a full boil for about 1 minute to sterilize the marinade.
  • Grill the chicken thighs until they are no longer pink in the middle and show grill marks, about 25 minutes, basting them generously with the sterilized marinade as they grill.

An easy Asian Barbecue Sauce recipe.

Number Of Ingredients 10

6 tablespoons hoisin sauce*
2 tablespoons rice vinegar (not seasoned)
1 tablespoon Asian fish sauce
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon honey
1/3 cup minced shallot
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 tablespoon minced peeled fresh ginger
1/8 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder
1/3 cup sugar

Steps:

  • Stir together all ingredients except sugar in a bowl.
  • Cook sugar in a dry heavy saucepan over moderate heat, undisturbed, until it begins to melt. Continue to cook, stirring occasionally with a fork, until sugar is melted into a deep golden caramel. Tilt pan and carefully pour in hoisin mixture (caramel will harden and steam vigorously). Cook over moderately low heat, stirring, until caramel is dissolved and sauce is thickened, 6 to 8 minutes. Cool to room temperature. Serve with shrimp, swordfish, pork, or chicken.
  • Our two favorite brands are Koon Chun and Lee Kum Kee, both from Hong Kong. We found them in New York's Chinatown, but they're also available by mail order from Uwajimaya (800-889-1928).

  • Whisk 1/2 cup reduced-sodium soy sauce, 2 tablespoons water, 1 1/2 tablespoons raw or turbinado sugar, 1 tablespoon minced garlic, 1 teaspoon Asian sesame oil, 1 teaspoon grated peeled fresh ginger, and 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper in a medium bowl.
