The classic Aperol spritz is worth the hype! It's light and bubbly, with hints of citrus and herbs: one of the most refreshing mixed drinks of all time.

Ingredients

2 ounces (4 tablespoons) Aperol, chilled
3 ounces (6 tablespoons) Prosecco or other sparkling wine, chilled
1 ounce (2 tablespoons) soda water
Ice (try clear ice!)
For the garnish: orange wedge, a straw if you like

Steps:

Add the Aperol to a glass filled with ice and stir. Top with the sparkling wine and soda water.
Squeeze in the orange wedge and stir gently, then serve. Serve with a straw to minimize dilution!

Jon Santer, the owner of Prizefighter in Emeryville, Calif. created this simple spritz to celebrate the recent arrival of Bruto Americano, an Italian-style bitter aperitivo from St. George Distillery. To keep the drink local, he uses California chardonnay as a mixer. The pleasingly pink drink is well balanced; the easygoing quality of the wine contrasts nicely with the aggressive bite of the Americano.

1 ounce California chardonnay
3/4 ounce Bruto Americano
3/4 ounce fresh pink grapefruit juice
2 ounces soda water
Grapefruit twist

Steps:

Add liquid ingredients, in order, to a Tom Collins glass filled with ice. Squeeze grapefruit twist over top of drink, then insert it vertically down side of glass. Serve drink with a straw.

¾ cup individually wrapped caramels (such as Kraft®), unwrapped
¼ cup half-and-half
1 cup butter, softened
⅓ cup packed dark brown sugar
1 egg
¾ teaspoon sea salt
3 cups all-purpose flour

Steps:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Combine caramels and half-and-half in a saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring until caramels are melted, about 5 minutes.
Beat butter and brown sugar together in a bowl using an electric mixer until fluffy. Beat in egg and salt. Beat in fluid caramel sauce. Add flour; beat until combined.
Fill a cookie press with the dough and press onto baking sheets, 1 to 2 inches apart.
Bake in the preheated oven until edges are golden, 8 to 10 minutes.
