Carrot Ginger Turmeric Smoothie image

A 7-ingredient smoothie with carrot juice, ginger, turmeric, pineapple, and banana! An anti-inflammatory, immune-boosting smoothie that's perfect for breakfast or a snack.

2 cups carrots
1 1/2 cups filtered water
1 large ripe banana ((previously peeled, sliced and frozen // more for a sweeter smoothie))
1 cup frozen or fresh pineapple
1/2 Tbsp fresh ginger ((peeled // 1 small knob yields ~1/2 Tbsp))
1/4 tsp ground turmeric ((or sub cinnamon))
1/2 cup carrot juice
1 Tbsp lemon juice ((1/2 small lemon yields ~1 Tbsp or 15 ml))
1 cup unsweetened almond milk

Steps:

  • Make carrot juice by adding carrots and filtered water to a high speed blender and blending on high until completely pureed and smooth. Add more water if it has trouble blending / scrape down sides as needed.
  • Drape a large, thin dish towel over a mixing bowl and pour over the juice. Then lift up on the corners of the towel and begin twisting and squeezing the juice out until all of the liquid is extracted. Set aside pulp for smoothies, or baked goods (such as carrot muffins).
  • Transfer carrot juice to a mason jar - will keep for several days, though best when fresh.
  • To the blender add smoothie ingredients and blend on high until creamy and smooth. Add more carrot juice or almond milk if it has trouble blending. Scrape down sides as needed.
  • Taste and adjust flavors as needed, adding more banana or pineapple for sweetness, lemon for acidity, ginger for bite, and turmeric for warmth.
  • Divide between two glasses (as original recipe is written // adjust if altering batch size) and serve. Best when fresh.

This is a powerful anti-inflammatory smoothie. It's packed with vegetables to give you a heap of nutrients to start your day. The turmeric, ginger and cinnamon will help reduce inflammation in the body, reduce pain and give you an immune boost. It's a great smoothie for winter, in summer you might like to try adding 1/3 cup of fresh chopped pineapple for a yummy tropical flavour.

Number Of Ingredients 12

2 lge celery stick(s), in chunks
1 med carrot(s), in chunks
1 med apple(s), quartered
1/2 cucumber(s), in chunks
1 Tbsp golden flaxseed meal (fine ground)
1 Tbsp cashew butter/spread, or 1/4 cup raw cashews
1cm piece fresh turmeric, or 1/2 tsp paste/or 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1cm piece fresh ginger, or to taste
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 cup coconut milk
1 cup filtered water, or a little extra if you prefer a thinner consistency
1 cup ice cubes

Steps:

  • Place all the ingredients into a high-speed blender. Blend at half-speed for a few seconds to break up the vegetables and fruit, then increase to high-speed until you reach a smooth and creamy consistency. Serve in a glass or jar (this is a big serving, leftovers will stay fresh in the fridge for 1 day). Optional: add 1/3 cup of chopped pineapple when in season.

1 blood or navel orange, peel and white pith removed
1 large carrot, scrubbed, coarsely chopped
1/2 cup frozen mango chunks
2/3 cup coconut water
1 tablespoon shelled raw hemp seeds
3/4 teaspoon finely grated peeled ginger
1 1/2 teaspoons finely grated peeled turmeric
Pinch of cayenne pepper
Pinch of kosher salt

Steps:

  • Using smoothie or ice crush setting, purée orange, carrot, mango, coconut water, hemp seeds, ginger, turmeric, cayenne, salt, and 1/2 cup ice in a blender until smooth.

2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1 small onion, minced
1 small carrot, peeled and thinly sliced
1 celery rib, thinly sliced
½ teaspoon dried tarragon
2 cups vegetable broth
½ cup dry white wine

Steps:

  • Heat the oil in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Saute onions until tender, approximately 5 minutes. Slowly stir in carrots, celery, and tarragon, and continue cooking another 5 minutes, or until carrots are tender.
  • Stir in vegetable broth and wine, and bring to a boil. Reduce to a simmer, and continue cooking 15 minutes longer. Serve hot.
