Deviled Sausages image

A spicy note to your everyday sausages that will be loved by adults and kids alike! Use beef or pork sausages. Serve with either a potato, sweet potato mash, or on a bed of steamed rice with vegetables.

1 tablespoon olive oil
1 pound sausages
½ cup water
1 teaspoon soy sauce
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon mustard
¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper, or to taste
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 tablespoon brown sugar

Steps:

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook sausages, about 15 minutes, until well browned and cooked through.
  • Drain fat, and return skillet and sausages to medium heat. Stir in water, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, cayenne, tomato paste, and brown sugar. Bring contents to a boil; reduce heat, and simmer, stirring occasionally, about 10 minutes.

1 teaspoon mustard
4 tablespoons ketchup
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350F/Mark 4. Spread English mustard over rashers of streaky bacon. Wrap the bacon around sausages, place on a baking tray and cook in oven for 15-20 minutes until cooked through.
  • Meanwhile, mix tomato ketchup with English mustard and Worcestershire sauce to make a devilled dip. Serve with chips or potato wedges.

Devilled Sausage is a favourite with the whole family! We serve it up with mashed potato and a couple of green vegetables (peas, beans etc) You can add sliced apple (cook it in when adding the gravy) to enhance the flavour.

8 -10 sausages
2 medium onions, sliced
250 g mushrooms, sliced
4 tablespoons onion gravy mix
2 cups water

Steps:

  • LIghtly soften and brown onions in a little oil - put into a large casserole dish.
  • Saute the mushrooms until softened - add to casserole dish.
  • Make up 1 cup of onion gravy mix with instant mix and 1 cup of water -- then add 1 cup of water to thin the mix.
  • Place sausages - I use thick beef sausages (uncooked) into the casserole dish, and cover with the onion mixture. Stir through.
  • Put a lid on the casserole dish and place in a preheated oven (180 degrees celcius) for 1 hour. Stir carefully once halfway through cooking.
  • Serve up with mash and enjoy!

Steps:

  • Place the sausages onto a baking tray and pre-heat the oven to 190C/fan 170C/gas 5.
  • Split the sausages from end to end, making a boat shape.
  • Make up the devilling mixture by placing all devilling ingredients into a small bowl and mixing well.
  • Divide up the mixture by placing a teaspoonful into each sausage, making sure you fill the boat shape from end to end.
  • Place into a moderately hot oven, for 25mins or until the sausages are cooked and the topping bubbly.
  • Delicious served hot or cold, with mash and baked beans or salad.

  • Fry sausages in a dash of oil over medium heat until browned on the outside and cooked through the centre. Remove from pan and place to one side.
  • Fry onions in the leftover sausage fat until they begin to soften, then add in apple. Continue frying until both begin turning golden, then add in garlic and fry for 1-2mins longer.
  • In a jug, combine beef stock and cornstarch/cornflour until lump free. Pour in the pan with tomatoes and stir until smooth and evenly combined.
  • Add in smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, thyme, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce and mustard. Check for seasoning/spice and adjust accordingly.
