This Filipino pork kebab recipe is great for outdoor parties, especially picnics.

1 cup white sugar
1 cup soy sauce
1 onion, diced
5 cloves garlic, chopped
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 (4 pound) boneless pork loin, cut into 1 1/2-inch cubes
10 bamboo skewers, soaked in water for 30 minutes

Steps:

  • Whisk the sugar, soy sauce, onion, garlic and black pepper together in a large bowl. Add the pork and toss to coat. Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours. Overnight is best if possible.
  • Preheat an outdoor grill for high heat, and lightly oil the grate.
  • Thread the pork onto the soaked skewers. Cook on the preheated grill until the pork is no longer pink in the center, 3 to 5 minutes per side.

These colorful kabobs are a wonderful way to showcase fresh veggies from your garden. Each bite is tender and flavorful, and the aroma is amazing. This is a recipe I found in TOH magazine and posting for safe keeping. Time doesn't include marinading time, so allow at least 2 hours for marinating, but more is better on the flavor. Feel free to add any veggies of your choice.

1 cup dry red wine
1/2 cup olive oil
4 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
4 teaspoons italian seasoning
1 tablespoon garlic powder
2 teaspoons seasoning salt
2 teaspoons pepper
1 teaspoon dried parsley flakes
1 beef top sirloin steak, cut into 1-inch cubes (1-1/2 pounds)
8 cherry tomatoes
1 large red onion
1 medium green pepper
1 summer squash
1 medium zucchini

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, combine the first eight ingredients. Pour half the marinade into a large resealable plastic bag; add beef. Seal bag and turn to coat.
  • Pour remaining marinade into another large resealable plastic bag; add tomatoes. Cut remaining vegetables into 1-in. pieces; add to bag. Seal bag and turn to coat. Refrigerate beef and vegetables for at least 2 hours.
  • Drain and discard marinade from beef. Drain vegetables, reserving marinade for basting. On eight metal or soaked wooden skewers, alternately thread beef and vegetables.
  • Using long-handled tongs, dip a paper towel in cooking oil and lightly coat the grill rack. Grill, covered, over medium heat or broil 4 inches from the heat for 10-15 minutes or until meat reaches desired doneness, basting frequently with reserved marinade and turning occasionally. Yield: 8 kabobs.

1 pound beef top round steak
¼ cup light brown sugar
¼ cup soy sauce
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 tablespoon oil
¼ teaspoon ground ginger
1 clove garlic, minced
1 small pineapple, cut into 1-inch chunks

Steps:

  • Cut steak into 1-inch chunks.
  • Combine brown sugar, soy sauce, lemon juice, oil, garlic, and ginger in a large glass or ceramic bowl. Add steak and pineapple chunks and toss to evenly coat. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours.
  • Set an oven rack about 6 inches from the heat source and preheat the oven's broiler. Line a sheet pan with aluminum foil.
  • Thread steak and pineapple chunks onto metal skewers and place on the prepared sheet pan.
  • Broil in the preheated oven until cooked through, turning halfway, about 15 minutes.

1 cup ketchup
1/3 cup French salad dressing
1/3 cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 pound boneless beef sirloin steak, cut into 1-inch cubes
1 cup fresh baby carrots
2 tablespoons water
1 pound medium fresh mushrooms, halved
1 medium green pepper, cut into 1-inch pieces
1/2 medium onion, cut into 1-inch pieces
Hot cooked rice, optional

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, combine the ketchup, salad dressing, soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce. Transfer 1/3 cup to another bowl for basting; cover and refrigerate. Pour remaining marinade into a large resealable plastic bag; add steak. Seal bag and turn to coat; refrigerate for at least 1 hour. , Place carrots and water in a microwave-safe dish. Cover and microwave on high for 4 minutes; drain. Drain and discard marinade. On 10 metal or soaked wooden skewers, alternately thread beef, and vegetables. , Grill, covered, over medium-hot heat for 18-20 minutes or until meat reaches desired doneness, basting frequently with reserved marinade and turning once.
