FLAX EGG RECIPE

Flax Egg Recipe image

Flax seed egg substitute mostly works in recipes which does not require a light/fluffy texture. I personally use flax egg replacement in recipes in which eggs are used as a binding agent, rather than as a leavening agent or for moisture.

Provided by Madhuram

Categories     Food

Yield Flax Egg (1 Egg Equivalent)

Number Of Ingredients 2

1 tablespoon ground flax seeds
3 tablespoons warm water

Steps:

  • Take a tablespoon of ground flax seed.
  • Add 2.5 to 3 tablespoons (I personally prefer 3) of warm water.
  • Whisk it for a few minutes and set it aside.
  • After about 5 minutes you would see a change in the texture. It would become gelatinous, sticky. Now the flax egg is ready to be used in your recipe as egg substitute.

A step-by-step tutorial of how to make a flax egg, egg substitute for baking!

Provided by Minimalist Baker

Categories     Vegan

Time 5m

Number Of Ingredients 2

1 Tbsp flaxseed meal ((ground raw flaxseed))
2 1/2 Tbsp water

Steps:

  • Add flaxseed meal and water to a dish and stir. Let rest for 5 minutes to thicken. Add to recipes in place of 1 egg (as original recipe is written).
  • It's not an exact 1:1 substitution in every recipe because it doesn't bind and stiffen during baking quite like an egg does. But I've found it to work incredibly well in pancakes, quick breads, brownies, muffins, cookies, and many other recipes.

2018-03-12 This leads me to conclude that flax eggs work for many recipes where eggs are the supporting stars, as opposed to the main actors—flax eggs wouldn't work for egg-focused recipes such as quiche, crepes, or omelets. 2021-01-03 Make sure that you are using flax meal for this recipe, not whole flax seeds. Whole seeds will not work. Use 3 tablespoons water for a regular egg or 4 tablespoons if it calls for a large egg. This recipe makes enough egg replacer for one egg. I do not recommend using a flax egg to replace more than two -- maybe three -- eggs in a baking recipe.
