Steps:
- To a martini shaker add, the vodka, ginger syrup, mint, and lime juice. Shake and serve in a chilled martini glass.
- In a small saucepan add the water, ginger and sugar. Stir to combine and bring to a boil. Continue to heat on a simmer to make a simple syrup, about 20 minutes. When ready, strain and transfer to a glass container and allow to cool to room temperature.

- Combine ingredients in a medium saucepan then bring to a boil. Once the ingredients start to boil, remove from heat, stirring occasionally to ensure the sugar dissolves.
- Once the liquid has cooled, strain and set aside.
- Wet cocktail glass then place in freezer.
- Fill cocktail shaker with ice then add vodka, ginger syrup and lime. Give the cocktail shaker a good rattle then set aside.
- Remove cocktail glass from freezer then dip the rim in a plate of sugar, if desired.
- If you like, fill glass with fresh ice-we served ours on the rocks!
- Strain martini into the prepped cocktail glass.
- Garnish with a lemon or lime zest, if desired.

- Fill a cocktail shaker or small pitcher with ice. Add the vodka, ginger syrup, and lime juice. Cover and shake vigorously, or stir, until combined and chilled, about 30 seconds. (In general, by the time the shaker mists up the drink is ready.) Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Add twist and serve.
- Remove the outer peel of the lemon with a vegetable peeler, taking care not to include too much of the bitter white pith. Finely chop the lemon peel and ginger in a food processor.
- Transfer the lemon-ginger mixture to a medium saucepan, add the sugar and water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, and simmer, partially covered, for 15 minutes. Strain the mixture and cool. Cover and refrigerate for up to 1 week.
- Yield: 2 cups
GINGER MARTINI
A vodka martini with a bit of a twist and kick. Ideally, you should have chilled martini glasses ahead of time, as this removes the need to chill the glasses when you prepare. Store the vodka in the freezer as well. If your glass and vodka are not chilled, you can make this drink in a cocktail shaker. Don't shake for too long - the vodka will become watery.

- Muddle it with vodka and soda. With a spoon, scrape the peel off fresh ginger. “Then grate a tablespoon into a shaker,” says Angel Cervantes, head bartender at D.C.’
- Make an extract to jolt a mojito. “I cut up a couple of medium-size pieces of fresh ginger, put them in a food processor with water, and blend until smooth,” says NYC-based bar consultant John McCarthy.
- Whip up a “shrub” cocktail. Popular in colonial times, shrubs—a blend of fruit or vegetables, vinegar, and a sweetener—have come back big recently. “They provide the ideal blend of sweetness and tartness you want in a cocktail,” says Michael Dietsch, author of the book Shrubs.
- Create an infusion to spice up rum. You can buy ginger-flavored spirits, like Domaine de Canton, but why not make your own? “Take about 15 slices of fresh ginger, muddle them (see left), and add 1 to 2 cups rum, vodka, whiskey, or tequila,” says Cervantes.
- Add it candied, dried, or pickled to a Bloody Mary. Feeling really adventurous? Dice candied ginger and muddle it like fresh ginger, or use it to garnish a drink.

- Place the vodka in a re-sealable jar along with the grated ginger and seal. Shake gently and set aside for two or more hours until infused. (The longer you let the vodka sit with the ginger the stronger the flavor will be.) Strain pressing on solids to extract all the liquid and set aside.
