This is a great cocktail for the festive period, and an ideal choice for New Years Eve in particular.

1¼ cup Thinly sliced kumquats (plus more for garnish)
1/3 cup Grand marnier
1/4 cup Sugar
1 750 ml Bottle of chilled champagne (or other bubbly)

Steps:

  • In a small bowl muddle the first three ingredients together with the back of a spoon.
  • Let sit for 10 minutes.
  • Strain liquid through a fine mesh strainer.
  • Pour two tablespoons of kumquat liqueur into champagne flutes and top with champagne.
  • Garnish with sliced kumquats.

2 pints kumquats, pricked a few times with a pin
Cold water
3 cups sugar
2 bottles chilled Champagne
Tangerine wedges, for garnish

Steps:

  • Place kumquats in a largesaucepan. Cover with cold water.Bring to a boil. Drain immediately.Repeat twice.
  • Add sugar and 2 cups water to drained kumquats in saucepan. Bring to a boil. Remove from heat immediately, and let kumquats and syrup cool completely.
  • Spoon 3 kumquats and 1 tablespoon syrup into each of 12 Champagne glasses. Top off with Champagne, and garnish with tangerine wedges.

8 large kumquats, sliced, seeded
2 teaspoons sugar
6 mint leaves
1 large lime, juice of
3/4 cup light rum
1 -2 cup crushed ice
3/4 cup club soda
2 sticks sugar cane, 8 inches long (optional)

Steps:

  • Reserve 4 kumquat slices for garnish.
  • Place remaining fruit slices in a large cocktail shaker.
  • Add the sugar, 4 of the mint leaves and lime juice.
  • Crush the kumquats and mint into the sugar with a bar mallet or large spoon until sugar dissolves.
  • Pour in the rum; shake well. Fill two tall glasses with crushed ice; strain mojito over ice.
  • Fill the glasses with club soda; stir lightly.
  • Garnish with remaining mint leaves, kumquat slices and sugar cane.

1 pint kumquats (about 30)
3/4 cup tequila
3 tablespoons lime juice
3 cups crushed ice
1/3 cup sugar

Steps:

  • Using lime wedges, moisten the rims of four margarita or cocktail glasses. Sprinkle salt on a plate; dip rims in salt. Set glasses aside., Place tequila in a blender. Rinse kumquats; cut in half and remove seeds. Add to blender; cover and process until pureed. Strain, discarding skins and pulp., Return puree to blender. Add the lime juice, ice and sugar; cover and process until blended. Pour into prepared glasses. Serve immediately.
