Categories     Appetizer     bread     Snack

Time 53m

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 cups warm water
2 pkg. active dry yeast or 3 1/2 tsp. instant yeast
2 teaspoons sea salt
2 tablespoons soft butter
1/2 cup plus 1 tablespoon grated Parmesan Cheese
1 1/2 tablespoons dried oregano leaves or Italian Seasoning
2 tablespoons sugar
4 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour (separated into 3 cups and 1 1/2 cups)
2.5 oz salami (optional)

Steps:

  • Sprinkle yeast over warm water in large mixing bowl. Let stand a few minutes: stir to dissolve. If you are using instant yeast skip this step and just put the warm water in the mixing bowl.
  • Add sugar, salt, butter, 1/2 cup cheese, your choice of seasoning, 3 cups flour ( and instant yeast if you didn't use active dry). Beat, at low speed, until blended. At medium speed, beat until smooth -- 2 minutes. Gradually add in the rest of the flour. Scrape down bowl and beaters.
  • Put dough into greased bowl. Cover with plastic wrap.
  • Let rise in warm place (85F), free from drafts, about 45 minutes, or until quite light and bubbly and more than double in bulk.
  • Preheat the oven to 375F. Lightly spray a 2-quart casserole with nonstick oil; set aside.
  • With wooden spoon, stir down batter. Beat vigorously 1/2 minute, or about 25 strokes. Turn into casserole. Sprinkle top of batter evenly with 1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese.
  • Bake 55 minutes, or until nicely browned. Turn out onto wire rack. Let cool, or serve slightly warm, in wedges.

NO YEAST CHEESE, GARLIC AND HERB BREAD

No Yeast Cheese, Garlic and Herb Bread image

A bread made without yeast with swirls of herb and pockets of cheese throughout. Slices well and especially great toasted!

Provided by Nagi | RecipeTin Eats

Categories     Bread

Time 50m

Number Of Ingredients 11

4 tbsp fresh herbs (, finely chopped (I used a mix of dill, rosemary, parsley and thyme) (Note 1))
2 tbsp olive oil
5 oz / 150g block cheese ((cheddar or tasty), cut into 2mm / 0.1" thick slices (about 10 to 12 slices) (Note 2))
Butter for greasing
2 1/4 cups plain flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 1/4 cups buttermilk ((See Note 3 for substitute))
2 eggs
2 small garlic cloves (, crushed)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 180C/350F.
  • Grease a bread tin (21 x 11 cm / 8" x 4") or small cake tin with butter.
  • Mix the herbs and olive oil in a small bowl.
  • Sift the Dry Ingredients into a bowl.
  • Combine the Wet Ingredients into a bowl and whisk to combine.
  • Make a well in the centre of the Dry Ingredients. Pour the Wet Ingredients in and mix until just combined.
  • Pour 1/3 of the batter into the bread tin. Dollop half the herbs across the top then use a knife to "swirl" it into the batter up and down, and also turning the batter over (refer photo below).
  • Use half the cheese slices and push them randomly into the batter. Push some all the way in and leave some poking out of the batter.
  • Pour the remaining batter over the top. Dollop and swirl the remaining herbs, then randomly wedge in the remaining cheese, pushing most of it below the surface of the batter. Even out the surface.
  • Bake for 30 minutes, or until the top is golden. Remove from oven and cover with foil, then bake for a further 15 to 20 minutes (total baking time of 45 to 50 minutes). Check to make sure the centre is cooked by inserting a skewer - it should come out clean.
  • Turn the bread out onto a cooking rack. Allow to cool for at least 10 minutes before cutting.

PARMESAN GARLIC HERB BREAD

Parmesan Garlic Herb Bread image

While at my DS's house, we played with our favorite Garlic Herb Challah #166356 and came up with this yummy version using cracked black pepper and Parmesan cheese. Although written here for mixing by hand (they are afraid to buy a bread maker for fear of turning into a 3-loaf-of-bread-per-week family. I understand their angst! ;D) you could pile everything into the Automatic Bread Machine and relax

Categories     Yeast Breads

Time 3h35m

Yield 1 loaf, 16 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 15

1 1/4 cups water (room temp to warm, not ice cold)
2 teaspoons yeast (or one packet)
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon garlic, minced
3 1/4 cups bread flour (my favorite is still King Arthur)
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon Italian herb seasoning, blend (or 1 t each of basil, thyme and rosemary)
1 teaspoon sea salt
1 teaspoon black pepper, cracked
1/4 cup parmesan cheese
1 tablespoon oil
1 egg
1 tablespoon water
1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional)

Steps:

  • In a bowl or large measuring cup combine the water, sugar and yeast. Stir to mix. Set aside for about 10 minutes.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, herbs, salt, pepper and Parmesan. Stir to mix.
  • Add the oil and the garlic to the yeast-water mix. Stir to mix.
  • Add the liquids to the dry ingredients. Stir to mix thoroughly. A dough ball will form.
  • Knead dough in bowl or lightly floured surface for about 8 minutes.
  • When finished kneading, coat all sides of the ball of dough with the 1T extra olive oil. Let rest in a draft free place (inside the oven will work) for about 1 1/2 to 2 hours -- until the dough has doubled in volume.
  • After that, 'punch down' the dough and knead briefly.
  • Form into loaf, place in baking pan (I line the pan with parchment paper so it doesn't stick to the pan) and let rest again for about 40 - 50 minutes.
  • Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Combine egg and water by whisking with fork. This is your 'egg wash'.
  • Using a soft basting brush or pastry brush, paint loaf with egg wash. If you are using the sesame seeds, sprinkle them on top now. Make 1 long superficial slice down the middle of the loaf or 4 diagonal slices.
  • Bake for about 33 - 35 minutes. Bread is done when it sounds hollow when tapped.
  • Enjoy with Italian foods, as toast or later on, dry and use as croutons.

GARLIC PARMESAN HERB CHALLAH BREAD RECIPE

Garlic Parmesan Herb Challah Bread Recipe image

This garlic-herb and parmesan challah bread is so soft, light and delicious. Very nice and interesting twist to traditional challah bread.

Provided by TheCookingFoodie

Categories     Bread Recipes

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 13

4 cups (500g) all-purpose Flour
1 tablespoon Instant dry yeast
1/4 cup (60ml) Vegetable oil
1 egg
1/4 cup (50g) Sugar
1 teaspoon (6g) salt
1/3 cup (33g) grated parmesan cheese
1½-2 teaspoons garlic powder
1/4 cup chopped parsley
2 teaspoons fresh thyme leaves
1 teaspoon Dried oregano
3/4 cup (180ml) water
1 Egg + 1 tbsp water

Steps:

  • 1. In a bowl of a stand mixer or in a large bowl, place flour, yeast, sugar, salt, garlic powder and mix. Make a well in the center and add egg, oil and water. Knead the dough on low speed. If the dough too dry and 1-2 tablespoons water, if the dough too sticky, add 1-2 tablespoons flour. knead the dough for 4-5 minutes. Add chopped parsley, thyme, oregano, parmesan and knead for 2-3 minutes more. The dough should be soft and smooth. 2. Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap, place in a warm place and let rise for 1 hour. Until doubled in size. 3. Divide the dough into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece of dough into a long rope roughly 1-inch thick. If the ropes shrink as you try to roll them, let them rest for 5 minutes to relax the gluten and then try again. 4. Braid the challah as described in the video. Place braid challah on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Cover and let rise for 45-60 minutes 5. Preheat oven to 360F (180C). 6. Gently brush with beaten egg and oil. Sprinkle sesame seeds (optional). 7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, until golden brown on the edges. Let cool for at least 30 minutes.
