1 cup (200g) long grain brown rice
1 cup (250ml) cold water

Steps:

  • Pressure Cook Brown Rice: Place 1 cup brown rice (200g) and 1 cup cold water (250ml) in Instant Pot. With Venting Knob in Venting Position, close the lid, then turn Venting Knob to Sealing Position. Pressure cook at High Pressure for 15 minutes (See experiment for your own preference), and Natural Release for 5 minutes, then Quick Release (turn Venting Knob to Venting position). Open the lid carefully.
  • Serve: Fluff brown rice with a rice paddle or fork. *Pro Tip: If the rice is a bit wet, let it rest a bit for the moisture to escape before serving.

Fluffy and al dente brown rice grains are super easy and quick when you use your Instant Pot. You'll learn the basic ratio and recipe to make brown rice any day of the week.

tap water for rinsing
200 g short-grain brown rice
240 g filtered water
tap water for rinsing
178 g long-grain brown rice
240 g filtered water

Steps:

  • Measure out the brown rice and place it into the Instant Pot metal container.
  • Under running water, rinse thoroughly, mixing with your hands a bit, then drain the water.
  • Measure the filtered water and pour it into the Instant Pot's metal pot.
  • Place the pot inside the Instant Pot, close the lid and rotate to lock.
  • Pressure cook on high pressure for 20 minutes with a natural release, with 'keep warm' turned off.
  • When the rice is done and the Instant Pot has naturally released all its pressure, open the lid and fluff the rice. Serve immediately.

2 cups (380g) brown rice (I used basmati brown rice)
2 1/2 cups (600ml) water
Salt to taste

Steps:

  • Add rice, water and salt to the Instant Pot.
  • Close the lid, select the manual setting and set the timer for 22 mins and let cook.
  • When done you can either let the pressure release naturally or let rest for 8 mins and then QPR.
  • Fluff the rice and serve.

  • Rinse- Run the rice under the tap in a colander, or add it to the stainless steel base, cover with water, swirl, then drain off the water (repeat 2-3 times).
  • Combine- To the stainless steel insert of your Instant Pot, combine the rinsed rice, cooking liquid and salt. Make sure all the rice is submerged in the liquid.
  • Pressure cook- Put the lid on your Instant Pot and set the steam release handle to the 'sealing' position. Set your Instant Pot to cook at high pressure for 22 minutes. Allow for a full natural pressure release- let the Instant Pot sit until the pin drops (around 15 minutes). Set the valve to 'venting', and carefully remove the lid.
  • Fluff the rice- Add your coconut oil (or butter if you are using that in place), and use a rice paddle or wooden spoon to fluff the rice. Put the lid onto your Instant Pot and let it sit for 2-3 minutes.
