Spiced Chamomile Tea image

This is one of the many recipes I came up with on my own while experimenting with my various tea herbs. This particular blend is good for helping one fall asleep since it has a high proportion of chamomile (a known relaxant) in it. Also, my boyfriend really likes this blend and he doesn't like the taste of chamomile! So you know it's gotta be good! Please note that it tastes best as a hot tea. Note: I've listed things in teaspoons because this website won't let me list it in parts, but it's technically in a ratio, so you can make whatever quantity you want.

2 teaspoons dried chamomile
1 teaspoon dried ginger
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon clove
1/4 teaspoon cardamom

Steps:

  • Assemble all the ingredients and place in a tea ball. Note: If you don't own a tea ball, then you can put the ingredients directly in the water and then strain out later.
  • Place tea ball in hot water and steep for 10 minutes.

8 cups water
4 chamomile tea bags
1 orange, zest of, removed in strips with a vegetable peeler
1 lime, zest of, removed in strips with a vegetable peeler
1/4 cup fresh gingerroot, sliced peeled
3/4 cup sugar

Steps:

  • In a 4-quart saucepan bring all ingredients to a boil and simmer, covered, 15 minutes.
  • Remove pan from heat and cool mixture. Steep mixture, covered and chilled, at least 8 hours and up to 24.
  • Pour mixture through a fine sieve into a pitcher.
  • This tea keeps, covered and chilled, 1 week.
  • Serve in ice-filled tall glasses.
