Sweet & Spicy Nuts image

Hot and spicy with a hint of brown-sugar sweetness, these snacking nuts are simply sensational. You and your guests will not be able to stop munching! The quick-and-easy skillet recipe also makes a great stocking stuffer or last-minute holiday gift from the kitchen. -Patty Lok, Sherman Oaks, California

Number Of Ingredients 14

1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon chili powder
1/4 teaspoon ground chipotle powder
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 cup shelled walnuts
1 cup pecan halves
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 tablespoon water
1-1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
Dash Louisiana-style hot sauce

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, combine the salt and spices; set aside. In a large heavy skillet, melt butter. Add walnuts and pecans; cook over medium heat until nuts are toasted, about 4 minutes., Sprinkle with spice mixture. Add the brown sugar, water, Worcestershire and hot sauce. Cook and stir for 1-2 minutes or until sugar is melted. Spread on foil to cool. Store in an airtight container.

Yield Makes 2 1/2 cups

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 large egg white
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1 3/4 teaspoons cayenne pepper
2 1/2 cups pecan halves, or assorted nuts, such as cashews, walnuts, or almonds

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Beat egg white until soft and foamy. Combine all remaining ingredients except pecans; whisk into egg white. Stir in pecans until well coated; spread mixture in single layer onto an ungreased baking pan.
  • Bake pecans for 15 minutes, then remove from oven. Using a metal spatula, toss, stir, and separate nuts. Reduce oven to 250 degrees and return nuts to bake until medium brown, about 10 minutes. Remove from oven; toss, and stir again. Place baking pan on wire rack to cool (they will crisp as they cool). Break up any that stick together.

1 tablespoon vegetable oil
2 cups raw macadamia nuts
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon curry powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon ground coriander
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper, more to taste

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 250. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Place the oil and nuts in a medium size bowl and toss until well coated. Add the remaining ingredients and mix well to coat evenly.
  • Transfer the nuts to the prepared sheet and arrange in a single layer. Place in the oven and bake until lightly browned, stirring occasionally, 25-30 minutes.
  • Remove from the oven, immediately loosen the nuts with a metal spatula, and set aside to cool before serving.

nonstick cooking spray
2 tablespoons white wine worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon olive oil
3/4 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning, crushed
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
2 cups macadamia nuts

Steps:

  • Line a 13x9x2 inch baking pan with foil; lightly coat the foil with cooking spray. Set pan aside. In a small bowl stir together Worcestershire sauce, oil, Italian seasoning, salt and cayenne pepper; set aside.
  • Spread nuts in prepared pan. Drizzle with seasoning mixture; toss gently to coat.
  • Bake in a 350 degree oven about 15 minutes or until nuts are toasted, stirring occasionally. Lift foil with nuts from pan. Let cool for 30 minutes. Store nuts in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks or freeze for up to 2 months.
