The basic formula I came up with for making any tasty soup. Kinda a clean out the fridge what do you got recipe!

Number Of Ingredients 17

8 cups broth
4 -5 cups cooked vegetables (carrots, beans, mushrooms, peppers, sauteed onions, garlic, corn, or some grains combo like cooked r)
8 ounces hot dogs or 8 ounces cooked fish
4 cups cabbage (optional) or 4 cups kale, etc. (optional)
diced canned tomato (optional)
ranch dressing mix (optional) or taco seasoning mix (optional)
cornstarch
water
grated cheese
fresh herb
bacon bits
toasted bread cubes
tortilla chips
salsa
sour cream
crouton
cheese, crisps

Steps:

  • In a pot, bring the broth to a simmer.
  • Add the additional ingredients and heat until as hot as desired.
  • If you want a thick soup dissolve corn starch in a bit of water to make a slurry.
  • Slowy add the slurry to the finished soup on the stove and heat until thickened to your liking.
  • Garnish each serving with the yummies!
  • For Vegetarian: You must omit the chicken, pork, beef, fish, or even shellfish. The broth must also be vegetable. Do not include the bacon bits unless they are soy also.

This is the best gosh darn soup! MIL makes it every year and I finagled the recipe from her..I know it sounds weird but its heavenly. She got the recipe out of a store flyer.

2 celery ribs, sliced
1 carrot, sliced
1 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup butter
3 (14 ounce) cans chicken broth
2 cups water
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon thyme
3 cups cooked turkey
1 (12 ounce) jar turkey gravy
1/4 cup left over prepared stuffing
1/4 cup left over mashed potatoes
2 tablespoons cranberry sauce (the jellied kind)
1 cup pearl barley

Steps:

  • Sauté first 4 ingredients for 2 minutes then cover and cook for 2 more minutes.
  • Add next 4 ingredients and cover and cook on low for 15 minutes.
  • Add remaining ingredients and cook until leftovers dissolve and barley is plump.
