A classic apple crumble with a twist. Why just have apples when you can have cherries too. This Apple and Cherry Crumble is a comforting dessert that is easy to make for a crowd

4 Apples (peeled and chopped)
200 g Fresh cherries (stoned and chopped)
1 tbsp Coconut oil
2 tbsp Sweetener
1 tsp ground cinnamon
100 g Ground almonds
80 g Oats ((blended into flour))
3 tbsp Coconut oil
2 tbsp Sweetener

Steps:

  • Add 1 tbsp of coconut oil to a large pan and gently heat the apples and cherries for 5 minutes.
  • Add 2tbsp sweetener and cinnamon and cook for a further 2 minutes.
  • Pour the fruit mixture in to a oven dish.
  • Make the crumble mix by putting the almonds and oats in to a food processor and blending until a flour consistency. Add 3tbsp coconut oil and sweetener and blend again.
  • Crumble the mixture over the fruit and then put the dish in the oven at 180°C/350°F/Gas 4 for 35-40 minutes.

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 egg yolk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup all purpose flour
1 cup quick oats
1 teaspoon apple pie spice
1/2 teaspoon ground anise
1 cup small batch cherry preserves
3/4 cup finely diced apples
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 Tablespoon water

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Spray an 8x8 pan with nonstick spray.
  • Mix together the butter and sugar until creamy. Add the vanilla and egg yolk and beat again.
  • Stir together the flour, oats, and spices and slowly add to the butter mixture until it becomes crumbly.
  • Press half the crumbs firmly in the bottom of the prepared pan.
  • Stir together the cherry preserves and apples and spread over the crust in the pan.
  • Sprinkle the remaining crumbs on top and press down gently. Bake for 30 minutes. Remove from the oven and cool.
  • Whisk together the powdered sugar and water. Drizzle over the top of the cooled bars. Cut into 12 squares.

3 cups dried apples, about 7 ounces
3/4 cup dried cherries, about 4 1/2 ounces
1 3/4 cups apple cider
3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons packed light-brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 cups rolled oats
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 sticks (16 tablespoons) cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces, plus more for dish

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Butter a 9-by-13-inch baking dish. Simmer apples, cherries, and cider in a covered saucepan, stirring occasionally, until fruits are softened and plump, about 5 minutes. Drain, reserving 2 tablespoons liquid. Let cool.
  • Coarsely chop fruit. Combine with 2 tablespoons sugar, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, and reserved cooking liquid.
  • Whisk together oats, flour, baking soda, salt, remaining 3/4 cup sugar, and remaining 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon in a large bowl. Cut in butter with a pastry blender or 2 knives until crumbs range in size from peas to gum balls. Press 4 cups of oat mixture into bottom of prepared dish. Spread fruit filling on top, leaving a 1/4-inch border on all sides. Sprinkle remaining oat mixture on top.
  • Bake until golden brown, about 35 minutes. Let cool in dish on a wire rack. Cut into 24 bars.

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375°F. Butter a 9 by 13-inch baking dish. Simmer apples, cherries, and cider in a covered saucepan, stirring occasionally, until fruits are softened, about 5 minutes. Reduce heat to low and simmer, covered, 5 minutes more. Drain, reserving 2 tablespoons liquid. Let cool.
  • Coarsely chop fruit. Combine with 2 tablespoons brown sugar, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, and reserved cooking liquid in a bowl.
  • Whisk together oats, flour, baking soda, salt, remaining 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon, and remaining 3/4 cup brown sugar. Cut in cold butter with a pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture resembles coarse meal with a few larger clumps remaining.

3 cups all-purpose flour
1-1/2 cups old-fashioned oats
1-1/2 cups packed brown sugar
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1-1/4 cups cold butter, divided
5 to 6 cups thinly sliced peeled apples
1 cup sugar
3 tablespoons cornstarch
1 cup cold water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, oats, brown sugar and baking soda; cut in 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Set aside 2 cups for topping. Press remaining crumbs into a greased 13x9-in. baking dish. Arrange apples over top; set aside. , In a saucepan, combine the sugar, cornstarch, water, vanilla and remaining butter. Bring to a boil. Cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thick and bubbly; spread over apples. Sprinkle with reserved crumbs. , Bake at 350° for 35-45 minutes or until top is lightly browned.

1 egg
1 (21 ounce) can cherry pie filling
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup chopped pecans

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°. Grease and flour a 13x9-inch pan.
  • Combine cake mix, 6 tablespoons butter and 1 cup rolled oats. Reserve 1 cup of this for crumb topping.
  • To remaining mixture, add egg; mix well.
  • Press into pan. Pour cherry filling over crust; spread to cover.
  • In large bowl add remaining 1 cup crumb mixture, 1/4 cup oats, 2 tablespoons butter, nuts, and brown sugar. Mix well. Sprinkle over cherries. Bake 30-40 minutes.

¾ cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
¼ teaspoon salt
8 tablespoons butter
2 cups sweetened, flaked coconut
2 cups sliced almonds
2 cups dried cherries
2 cups dried apricots, coarsely chopped
1 ½ (14 ounce) cans sweetened condensed milk

Steps:

  • Adjust oven rack to lower-middle position; heat oven to 325 degrees. Spray a 13-by-9-inch Pyrex baking pan with vegetable cooking spray. Set aside.
  • In a medium bowl, mix flour, oats, brown sugar and salt. Stir in butter with a fork until well mixed and clumps have formed. Spread 1 1/2 packed cups of oat mixture over the bottom of the pan, pressing to form a thin crust.
  • Mix coconut, almonds, cherries, apricots and milk in a large bowl. Pour over crust, using a rubber spatula to evenly distribute and press down. Sprinkle remaining oat mixture over dried fruit filling.
  • Bake until lightly golden, about 30 minutes. Cool to room temperature. (You can cover and store at room temperature up to 2 days.)

3/4 cup butter-flavored shortening
1 large egg

2 cans (21 ounces each) cherry pie filling
1 tablespoon grated orange zest
1-1/4 cups packed brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 cup cold butter, cubed

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine 2 cups flour, sugar and salt; cut in shortening until crumbly. In another bowl, whisk the egg, water and vinegar. stir into flour mixture with a fork until a soft ball forms. , On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough into a 15x10-in. rectangle. Use summer cherries to make this easy oat-topped crumble. Perfect with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, it makes a superb summertime dessert

1kg fresh cherries , pitted
50g golden caster sugar
1 lemon , juiced
½ tsp vanilla extract
150g plain flour
100g cold butter
½ tsp salt
70g soft brown sugar
100g rolled oats
40g flaked almonds
ice cream , to serve

Steps:

  • Tip the cherries into a medium-sized ovenproof dish (around 28cm) and mix with the sugar, lemon and vanilla. Set aside.
  • Heat the oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 4. Tip the flour and butter into a mixing bowl and rub together with your fingertips to create a fine, breadcrumb-like mixture. Stir through the salt, brown sugar, oats and most of the almonds. Tip over the cherry mixture, then top with the remaining almonds.
  • Bake the crumble in the centre of the oven for 30-35 mins or until the topping is golden brown. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
