2 teaspoons almond butter (or other nut butter)
3 teaspoons honey
⅛ of a teaspoon of salt
⅛ of a teaspoon of baking soda
1 can of chickpeas, rinsed and drained
1 teaspoons oats
1 teaspoon milk (or milk alternative)
1 teaspoon brown sugar (optional)
1 cup chocolate chips (or sugar-free, dairy-free chips)

Steps:

  • Blend all ingredients except the chickpeas in a food processor or blender until smooth.
  • Add the chickpeas a little at a time until blended smooth.
  • Taste and adjust any ingredients to make it sweeter, generally by adding more honey.
  • Blend until it reaches the right consistency while scraping the sides of the blender or food processor. If more moisture is needed to make it smooth add more milk, milk alternative, or a tablespoon of warm water.

¼ cup tahini (60 mL)
1 tsp vanilla extract (5 mL)
2-3 Tbsp water (30 to 45 mL)
¾ cup chopped white chocolate (melted, 125 g)
½ cup dark or semi-sweet chocolate (chips or chunks, 85 g)

Steps:

  • Blend: In a food processor, combine chickpeas, tahini, and vanilla. Add water, a tablespoon at a time, until mixture is well-blended and creamy.
  • Chocolate: Stir melted white chocolate into chickpea mixture. If mixture becomes less fluffy (or a bit gluey), blitz it in the food processor a few times. Cool hummus if it is warm, then stir in chocolate chips.
  • Serve: For best results, refrigerate for an hour before serving. Serve cold with apples, crackers, toast, or spoons!

1 can of garbanzo beans, drained and rinsed well (or homemade beans from scratch)
1/4 cup cashews (level if pieces, slightly heaped if whole)
1/4 cup + 2 Tbsp maple syrup*
2 tsp vanilla extract (homemade vanilla extract)
3 Tbsp rolled oats
1/8 - 1/4 tsp salt*
1/4 - 1/3 cup chocolate chips

Steps:

  • Combine all the ingredients except the chocolate chips in a blender or food processor. See notes for the maple syrup and salt.
  • Blend or puree the ingredients until everything is smooth and combined well, about 2 minutes.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips and serve; alternatively, store the hummus plain and add chocolate chips just before serving.

1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon fine salt
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1/4 cup granulated sugar
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature
2 tablespoons plain yogurt
1/2 teaspoon alcohol-free vanilla extract
1/3 cup semisweet mini chocolate chips

Steps:

  • Microwave the flour in a small microwave-safe bowl for 1 minute. Remove and stir well. Microwave for an additional minute or until the temperature reaches 180 degrees F. Sift into a medium bowl, then whisk in the baking soda and salt (see Cook's Note).
  • Beat the brown sugar, granulated sugar, butter, yogurt and vanilla extract with an electric mixer on medium-high speed in a large bowl until well combined, about 2 minutes. Add the flour mixture and mix on low speed until well incorporated. (Turn off the beaters and use your hands to help combine if needed.) Fold in the chocolate chips with a rubber spatula or mix them in with your hands.
