6 bacon strips, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
2 pounds fresh green beans
3 tablespoons brown sugar
1/2 cup water

Steps:

  • In a large cast-iron or other heavy skillet, cook bacon over medium heat until crisp, about 5 minutes. Add the beans, brown sugar and water. Stir gently; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer until beans are crisp-tender, 15 minutes. Remove to a serving bowl with a slotted spoon.

3 slices bacon, cut into 1 inch pieces
¼ cup chopped onion
1 (15 ounce) can green beans, with liquid
1 cube chicken bouillon

Steps:

  • Heat a saucepan over medium heat, and add the bacon pieces. Fry for a few minutes, then add the onions. Cook and stir until the onions are tender, about 5 minutes. Pour in the green beans, and crumble in the bouillon cube. Stir to blend, then simmer for about 15 minutes. If you wish to simmer longer, add more water to keep the beans from scorching.

1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon bacon grease
2 tablespoons butter

Steps:

  • Wash beans and snap them into 1 1/2" pieces, discarding ends.
  • Cover with water and add salt and bacon grease.
  • Cover and bring to a boil.
  • Turn down to simmer and continue cooking for about an hour.
  • Pour off water and add 2 T butter. Let sit with lid on for a minute for butter to melt, then toss beans a little to distribute butter.

These Old Fashioned Green Beans only require a handful of ingredients, easy to make and requires very little time. Simple ingredients but lots flavor!

10 bacon strips (chopped into 1/4 inch pieces)
2 tablespoon soy sauce (low sodium)
2 tablespoon brown sugar (packed)
1/2 cup water
1 1/2 pound fresh green beans
1/8 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
1/4 teaspoon pepper (or to taste)

Steps:

  • Add the chopped bacon to a large skillet and cook over medium heat until the bacon is nice and crisp and most of the fat has rendered, should take about 5 minutes.
  • Add the soy sauce, brown sugar and water to the skillet and stir. Bring to a boil.
  • Add the green beans and toss them around a bit, so they get covered in the sauce. Reduce the heat to a medium-low, cover the skillet with a lid and simmer for 15 minutes. The green beans should be crisp-tender when done.
  • Season with salt and pepper if needed, then serve.

Basic recipe is from Pioneer Woman but I altered it a little. I had to splurge since it was our first fresh green beans for the summer so I used bacon grease. YUM Next time olive oil.

1 lb fresh green beans
2 tablespoons bacon grease (can substitue olive oil)
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup chicken stock
1/2 cup chopped red bell pepper
1/2-1 teaspoon sea salt or 1/2-1 teaspoon kosher salt
ground pepper

Steps:

  • Snap the ends of beans and into the desired length.
  • Melt bacon grease (or heat olive oil) in a skillet over medium low heat.
  • Add garlic and onions and cook for a minute.
  • Add green beans and cook for a minute until beans turn bright green.
  • Add the chicken stock, chopped red pepper and S&P.
  • Turn the heat to low, cover leaving the lid cracked for steam to escape.
  • Cook for 25 minutes or so until liquid is evaporated and beans are soft.
