The first time I tasted this old-fashioned apple crisp, i couldn't believe it was made on the grill. Topped with a scoop of ice cream, the warm cinnamony dessert will earn you rave reviews.

- Place the apple slices on a double thickness of heavy-duty foil (about 24x12 in.). In a small bowl, combine the oats, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves; cut in butter until mixture is crumbly. Sprinkle over apples. , Fold foil around apple mixture and seal tightly. Grill, covered, over medium heat for 20-25 minutes or until apples are tender. Open foil carefully to allow steam to escape. Serve warm with ice cream if desired.

- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degree C).
- Place the sliced apples in a 9x13 inch pan. Mix the white sugar, 1 tablespoon flour and ground cinnamon together, and sprinkle over apples. Pour water evenly over all.
- Combine the oats, 1 cup flour, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda and melted butter together. Crumble evenly over the apple mixture.
- Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for about 45 minutes.

- Preheat oven to 375°. Place apples in a large bowl. Combine sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon; sprinkle over apples and toss to coat. Transfer to a greased 13x9-in. baking dish. - If baking immediately pre-heat your grill to low. This recipe can be prepped ahead slightly and kept in the fridge, it also can be put on after other food has been cooked on the grill just ensure that the heat is switched to low before cooking.
- To make the crumb topping start by cutting cold butter into small pieces. Add the cold butter, flour, oats, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt to a medium mixing bowl. Use a pastry cutter/two forks to mix the ingredients into a crumb topping, breaking up the butter into small chunks using the pastry cutter/ using the forks in a scissor cutting motion to mix everything into cumbles a little bigger than the size of peas. Transfer to a cool area (the fridge if possible) while making the filling.
- To make the filling start being peeling, coring, and slicing the apples. (I found that cutting each apple into 16 slices was the perfect size). Next in a medium mixing bowl add the flour, bourbon, cinnamon, vanilla extract, brown sugar, dash salt, and melted butter. Whisk ingredients together until combined. Combine the filling mixture and the apples, toss to coat entirely.
- Add the apple filling to a clean cast iron pan** spread out into an even layer. Gently sprinkle the crumb topping over the apples in an even layer. Cover tightly with aluminum foil.
- Trasfer the pan the the grill. Grill covered for 20 minutes.
- Uncover the pan and grill another 10 minutes or until cooked through and top is golden brown. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving. Best served with vanilla ice cream.

- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Butter a 9 by 14 by 2-inch oval baking dish.
- Peel, core, and cut the apples into large wedges. Combine the apples with the zests, juices, sugar, and spices. Pour into the dish.
- To make the topping, combine the flour, sugars, salt, oatmeal, and cold butter in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment. Mix on low speed until the mixture is crumbly and the butter is the size of peas. Scatter evenly over the apples.
- Place the crisp on a sheet pan and bake for 1 hour until the top is brown and the apples are bubbly. Serve warm.

- Halve and core the apples, then either brush them with olive oil or spritz with Pam.
- Dust the halves with salt and pepper, then place cut-side down over direct heat on a hot grill. Cook with the grill covered. After about 3 to 5 minutes, the apples should have pronounced grill marks on their cut sides.
- Use tongs to flip the apples and reduce the heat under them to low or move to cooler part of grill. Close the grill and cook until the apples are just tender, about another 3 to 5 minutes.
- To serve, sprinkle grated cheddar cheese over the apples and offer as a side to pork, chicken or steak.
- Note: if you want a sweet option, sprinkle with cinnamon and/or nutmeg, grill about 3 minutes. Turn over, sprinkle with sugar or brown sugar, raisins and/or coconut, close and cook until tender, about another 3 minutes. Top w/ vanilla or cinnamon ice cream!

- 1. Peel apples. Slice and put in a greased 9x9 foil or metal pan. Stir in 1/4 cup of the brown sugar.
- 2. Topping: Combine remaining brown sugar, oatmeal, flour, cinnamon and nutmeg. Cut in margarine until crumbly. Sprinkle over apples.
- 3. Place pan in center of cooking grill. Cook 35 minutes or until apples are tender and topping is crisp. Serve warm with ice cream.
- 4. I usually combine the ingredients ahead of time before I grill the main meal. Just before everyone finishes their meal I throw this on the grill to cook.
