TEQUILA HORCHATA COCKTAIL

This creamy, cinnamon-spiced horchata cocktail is spiked with tequila and perfect with some spicy Mexican food.

4 OZ. ALMOND MILK
½ OZ. ALMOND LIQUEUR
½ OZ. CINNAMON SIMPLE SYRUP
2 OZ. ANJEO TEQUILA
GLASS TYPE: COLLINS

Steps:

  • Add everything into your cocktail shaker with ice.
  • Shake.
  • Fill your glass with ice.
  • Strain your shaken horchata into your glass.
  • Garnish with some cinnamon.
  • Order some tacos.
  • Or a burrito.
  • Really, chile verde is way to go.
  • Oh, and drink your Horchata Cocktail.

RUM-SPIKED HORCHATA

1 cup uncooked long grain rice
2 quarts warm water
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 ¼ cups milk
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
¼ cup rum, or to taste
16 cubes ice

Steps:

  • Mix the rice and warm water together in a bowl, and let stand for 1/2 hour. Reserving the water, drain, and place the rice in the bowl of a food processor. Add the cinnamon and process until a paste forms. Return the rice to the water and let stand at least 2 hours, stirring occasionally as the water turns milky white.
  • Strain the rice through a fine sieve into a bowl or pitcher. Stir in the milk, condensed milk, vanilla, and rum, if desired, until evenly blended. Refrigerate at least 2 hours.
  • To serve, divide the ice cubes between four glasses, and pour the chilled horchata over the ice.

Horchata is a refreshing summer drink. I learned this recipe a couple years ago from a Mexican coworker, and I was immediately addicted!

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 quarts hot water
½ cup white sugar
1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 cup long grain rice
1 cup milk
ice cubes, for serving

Steps:

  • Pour sugar, cinnamon, and rice into hot water; stir until sugar dissolves. Cover, and let stand at room temperature for at least 3 hours, but preferably overnight.
  • Stir in milk, then puree with a hand blender, or in batches in a standing blender until the rice resembles fine sand. Strain through several layers of cheesecloth, or through a very fine strainer. Serve over ice.
