CREAMY POTATO KALE GRATIN RECIPE BY TASTY
Here's what you need: russet potato, kale, shredded parmesan cheese, shredded gruyère cheese, bread crumbs, butter, garlic, flour, milk, salt, pepper

Steps:
- Thinly sliced the potatoes, roughly ¼-inch (5mm) thick.
- Remove stems from kale and cut into ¾ inch-1 inch (2 cm) pieces.
- For the Béchamel sauce, add butter and garlic to a saucepan on medium heat and sauté until aromatic.
- Add flour and mix until mixture browns slightly.
- Add milk, salt, and pepper and simmer on low heat until mixture thickens.
- In a medium-sized oven dish, lay a hefty bed of kale adding olive oil, salt, and pepper and gently mixing.
- Starting from one side layer your potatoes across the kale covering the entire dish.
- Gently press the potatoes and kale mixture down to make more room in the dish.
- Drizzle half of the Béchamel sauce across all of the potatoes.
- Repeat the process and add another layer of kale, olive oil, salt, pepper, and potatoes and cover with remaining sauce.
- Garnish to taste with parmesan, Gruyère, and bread crumbs
- Bake at 350°F (180°C) for 30 minutes covered. Remove cover and bake an additional 30 minutes.

POTATO-TOMATO GRATIN
Steps:
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- Heat a large saute pan or Dutch oven over high heat for 2 minutes. Swirl in 3 tablespoons olive oil, and then add the onions, 1 teaspoon thyme, 1 teaspoon salt and some pepper. Cook 6 minutes, stirring often, and then turn the heat down to medium. Add the butter, and cook 15 minutes, stirring and scraping with a wooden spoon, until the onions start to caramelize. Turn the heat down to low and continue cooking for about 10 minutes, stirring often, until the onions are a deep golden brown. Remove the pan from the heat and set aside.
- Use a mandoline to slice the potatoes into 1/8-inch-thick rounds. Toss them with the cream, 1 teaspoon thyme, 1 teaspoon salt and some pepper.
- Cut the tomatoes into 1/4-inch-thick slices. Arrange them on a plate and season with 1 teaspoon salt and some pepper.
- Place half the caramelized onions in an even layer in a 9-by-9-inch (or equivalent) gratin or baking dish. Arrange one layer of alternating potatoes and tomatoes on top of the onion layer. Layer a couple of slices of cheese and scatter some olives over the cheese. Drizzle with 2 tablespoons of the cream from the potatoes and 1 tablespoon olive oil. Season with 1 teaspoon salt, a healthy pinch of pepper, 1/2 teaspoon thyme and half the basil.
- Scatter the rest of the caramelized onions over the potatoes and tomatoes. Arrange another layer of potatoes, tomatoes and cheese on top; make this layer pretty, because it will be the top of your gratin. Pour the remaining cream from the potatoes and the remaining 1 tablespoon olive oil over the potatoes and tomatoes. Season with 1/4 teaspoon salt, a pinch of pepper, and the remaining 1/2 teaspoon thyme, olives and basil. Press the vegetables down with your fingers. The cream and oil will come up through the layers and coat the vegetables evenly.
- Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil. Bake until the potatoes are tender when pierced, about 2 hours. Remove the gratin from the oven and uncover it, being careful of the steam.
- Turn the oven up to 450 degrees F and return the gratin, uncovered, to the oven. Cook until the juices have thickened and the top is nice and golden brown (as in "gratineed"), another 25 to 30 minutes.

- Preheat oven to 400°. In a large saucepan, saute carrots and pepper in 3 tablespoons butter until tender. Stir in flour, oregano and salt until blended; gradually add milk. Bring to a boil; cook and stir 2 minutes or until thickened. Stir in beans and 2 cups cheese until cheese is melted., Layer half the potatoes and sauce in a greased 13x9-in. baking dish; repeat layers. Sprinkle with remaining cheese. In a microwave, melt the remaining butter. Stir in bread crumbs. Sprinkle over top., Cover and bake 50-55 minutes. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add potatoes and cook until tender but still firm, about 15 minutes. Drain and place in a 9 x 13 inch baking dish.
- Meanwhile, in a small saucepan over high heat, boil 2 tablespoons of broth. Reduce heat to low. Stir in flour, seasoning salt, pepper, mustard and nutmeg. Gradually add soy milk, stirring constantly until thickened. Stir in half of the soy cheese. Stir constantly until cheese is melted. Pour over potatoes.
- In a small bowl combine the remaining broth and the bread crumbs. Spoon evenly over potatoes. Top with remaining soy cheese. Sprinkle with paprika.
- Bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes.

Steps:
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
- Lightly spray or oil a 9-inch square or oval gratin dish with 2-inch sides.
- Place the onion slices on the bottom of the prepared dish and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
- Arrange half of the potato slices over the onion and sprinkle with salt and pepper and half of the thyme.
- Arrange all of the tomato slices over the potatoes and cover with the garlic slices.
- Sprinkle with salt, pepper and the remaining thyme.
- Add a layer of the remaining potatoes and season with salt and pepper.
- Drizzle the olive oil over the casserole.
- Pour the white wine and enough vegetable broth to come two-thirds of the way up the dish.
- Dot with butter, if desired.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove the foil and press down on the potatoes to make sure they are adequately moistened.
- Bake another 40 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a knife pierces through to the bottom easily.
- Remove from the oven and serve with French bread and a green salad.
- Makes 6 servings.
