8 string cheese
24 wonton wrappers
1 egg mixed with 1 tbsp of water
oil for deep-frying
salt and parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Cut each string cheese into thirds.
  • Brush each wonton wrapper with the egg wash, place cheese in the center, fold edges up, and roll.
  • Heat oil to 375 and fry for 1-2 minutes, flipping half-way through, until golden brown.
  • Remove from oil and sprinkle with parmesan cheese and salt. Serve with marinara sauce if desired.

12 pieces string cheese
12 large egg roll wrappers (see note)
Oil for deep-fat frying
Marinara or spaghetti sauce

Steps:

  • Place a piece of string cheese near the bottom corner of one egg roll wrapper (keep remaining wrappers covered with a damp paper towel until ready to use). Fold bottom corner over cheese. Roll up halfway; fold sides toward center over cheese. Moisten remaining corner with water; roll up tightly to seal. Repeat with remaining wrappers and cheese., In an electric skillet, heat 1/2 in. of oil to 375°., Fry sticks, a few at a time, for 30-60 seconds on each side or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Serve with marinara sauce.

1 cup vegetable oil
1 large egg, beaten
4 string cheese, halved
8 wonton wrappers
1/2 cup marinara sauce, homemade or store-bought

Steps:

  • Heat vegetable oil in a medium skillet to 325 degrees F. In a small bowl, whisk together egg and 1 tablespoon water. Working one at a time, brush wonton wrapper with egg wash; place string cheese in the center of each wrapper. Bring the bottom edge of the wrap tightly over the cheese, rolling from bottom to top until the top of the sheet is reached, being careful not to tear the wrapper. Repeat with remaining wrappers and string cheese. Add string cheese to the skillet and cook until golden brown and crispy, about 1-2 minutes. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate. Serve immediately with marinara sauce, if desired.

  • To assemble mozzarella sticks, place a wonton wrapper on the counter in a diamond shape. Place the string cheese at the bottom of the diamond. Roll up, tucking in the left and right sides of the wonton wrappers. Make sure that there are no rips or tears in the wonton wrapper or the cheese will come oozing out. Secure the edges of the wonton wrappers with a bit of water.
  • Heat oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Use just enough oil to cover the bottom of the pan. No need to submerge the mozzarella sticks in oil. To test whether the oil is hot enough, dip the end of the mozzarella stick in the oil. If it sizzles, it's ready. Place a mozzarella stick in the oil. Fry on one side until golden brown. Turn over to brown the other side.
  • Remove from pan and place on a plate covered with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve with your choice of dipping sauce.
