CABBAGE SLAW
This recipe proves that homemade coleslaw doesn't have to mean a lot of fuss. You can make it in a moment's notice and serve it with a variety of foods.

- In a food processor or by hand, coarsely chop the cabbage and carrot. In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, milk, vinegar, sugar, salt, pepper and celery seed. Stir into the cabbage mixture. Chill until serving.

HAMBURGER STEW WITH CABBAGE
I grew up in Kansas City, where my parent's would go to Shoney's once a week. They had an all-you-can-eat soup and salad bar and it was the highlight of my week. Even as a kid, I've always loved soup. Then we moved out of state. Even though it has been nearly 40 years since I last had it, I never forgot about their beef and cabbage soup. I decided to recreate it based off my memory and here is what I came up with. Enjoy!

Steps:
- Crumble ground beef in a large soup pot and cook over medium-high heat for 5 minutes. Drain grease. Add bell pepper, onion, and celery. Cook for 5 minutes.
- Increase heat to high. Add kidney beans, tomatoes, cabbage, beef broth, water, beef bouillon, garlic, and Worcestershire sauce; stir to combine. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer for 30 minutes. Ladle into bowls and salt to taste.

- Bring a large pot of water to a boil; salt it. Add the potatoes and cook for 7 minutes. Add the pasta and cook for 2 minutes. Stir in the cabbage and cook for 5 minutes.
- While the potatoes and pasta are working, melt the butter in a large, deep skillet over medium heat. Add the garlic and whole sage leaves. Cook until the sage is crisp, 3 to 4 minutes. Remove the garlic and sage leaves to a small plate.
- Add the sliced sage and ground pepper to the skillet; just before draining the potatoes, pasta and cabbage, add 2 ladles of the starchy cooking water.
- Drain the potatoes, pasta and cabbage and add to the skillet. Stir it all together, adding the Pecorino Romano as you work to get a cheesy, buttery coating. Adjust the salt and garnish the pasta with the reserved whole sage leaves and garlic.
