CLASSIC COLESLAW

Classic Coleslaw image

I'm very picky about my coleslaw. Most recipes are either too sweet or too tangy for my taste. This one is the perfect combination for my taste buds. This recipe is by Old Gringo on Group Recipe website.

CLASSIC DELI COLE SLAW DRESSING

Classic Deli Cole Slaw Dressing image

A very good dressing I found on the back of a pre-mixed cole slaw package. Tasty, easy to throw together and just like what you would find in a deli. You can make extra dressing if you like your cole slaw "extra creamy" as well as use your own mixture of shredded green cabbage, carrots and red cabbage....We love it!!!

Provided by Food Network

Categories     side-dish

Time 1h25m

Yield 8 to 10 servings

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 small head green cabbage
1/2 small head red cabbage
3/4 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup white wine vinegar, such as Chardonnay
1 to 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 teaspoons celery seeds
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 cup matchstick carrots
1/4 cup fresh parsley leaves

Steps:

  • Remove and discard tough outer leaves from the green cabbage. Cut the head in half, cutting through the core. Repeat with the red cabbage and place both in a large bowl.

  • Once cabbage has marinated in the dressing, taste and add reserved dressing as desired. Add the carrots and parsley and toss to combine.

Can you make coleslaw without mayo or vinegar?
We also often make this coleslaw recipe without mayonnaise. Sometimes we dress it simply with seasoned rice vinegar. Sometimes we add some shredded green apple to the mix. Yes, it can! In fact, I prefer it that way because the coleslaw dressing sits with the cabbage and carrots and basically marinates them! You can make this recipe a day in advance. Any more than that and the salad begins to break down texturally.
