Classic French 75 cocktails are easy to make at home with this recipe! The French 75 is a refreshing and citrusy, sparkling gin cocktail that packs a punch.

Provided by Cookie and Kate

Categories     Cocktail

Time 10m

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 1/2 ounces gin
3/4 ounce fresh lemon juice (about 3/4 medium lemon)
3/4 ounce simple syrup (recipe follows)
2 to 3 ounces chilled Champagne (enough to top the glass)
Lemon peel, for garnish
1/4 cup honey or sugar
1/4 cup water

Steps:

  • To make the simple syrup: Combine the honey (or sugar) and water in a small saucepan. Warm over medium heat, whisking occasionally, just until the honey or sugar has disappeared into the water. Remove the pot from the heat and let it cool.
  • To make a cocktail (you can make multiple drinks at once): Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Pour in the gin, lemon juice and simple syrup. Securely fasten the cap on the shaker and shake until well chilled, about 20 seconds. Strain the liquid into Champagne glasses and top with Champagne.

FRENCH 52 COCKTAIL

This isn't my recipe - I stumbled across it on line but a few have asked that I post it as a recipe so it can be pinched - so...here ya go. http://food52.com/collections/330714-tipples?collectable_type=recipe&from_collection_membership=1 Prep time does not include cooling time for the wine syrup.

Provided by Renée G. @DuchessofCork

Categories     Cocktails

Number Of Ingredients 14

WINE SYRUP
- 1 cup sauvignon blanc or other dry white wine
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 sprig fresh rosemary
- 2 sprigs fresh thyme
- 3 strips grapefruit peel (a little attached pith is fine)
THE COCKTAIL
- 1 ½ ounces gin
- 1 ounce wine syrup
- 1/2 ounce lemon juice
- 1/2 ounce grapefruit juice
- 2 dashes citrus or orange bitters
- 2 ounces prosecco or other dry sparkling wine, to top
- 1 grapefruit twist, for garnish

Steps:

  • Make the wine syrup: Add all ingredients for the syrup to a small saucepan over medium heat. Heat, stirring often, until sugar is dissolved and syrup starts to bubble a little (about 5 minutes). Allow to cool to room temperature. Strain and refrigerate. (I'm guessing this stuff will keep a few weeks in the fridge.)
  • Add all ingredients except the Prosecco and the garnish to a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake until very cold. Fine strain into a chilled flute or coupe. Top with Prosecco, garnish with the twist, and serve.

10 INSANELY GOOD PARISIAN COCKTAILS AT HOME | TALK IN FRENCH

From talkinfrench.com
Estimated Reading Time 6 mins
  • The Black Rose. Dating back to the Art Deco Era, this pretty little thing is a favourite amongst Parisians, both young and old. While it may look as feminine as a flower, don’t be fooled; its heavy dose of Vermouth certainly packs a punch, and one too many of these pink potions and you’ll be drooping over.
  • The Sidecar. The name speaks for itself: you’ll be in no state to get behind the wheel after a few sips of this stuff, that’s for sure! There is some dispute over its creation---with no other than The Ritz Hotel, Paris taking claim for this age-old classic---created way back when sidecars were actually a thing.
  • Le Forum Cocktail. If you’re lucky enough to actually be in Paris, you should hit up Le Forum, one of Paris’ most historic cocktail bars. At 85 years old, it’s as much of a museum as it is bar; what better excuse is there to drink than that?
  • The French Martini. Paris is scandalously sexy, and a few sips on a French Martini is sure to get you feeling that way, too. A sumptuous purple colour issuing from the famous Chambord, it gives a nod to its heritage—it’s Louis XIV himself who is said to be the first to have sampled the liqueur.
  • Serendipiti. A cocktail with its own cheer; you’ll shout its name upon tasting! This noisy number hails from one of the most glamorous hotels in the world: The Ritz, Paris.
  • Bobo Parisian. Make way, Hemingway! Here comes the new, hipster, gin-drinking Parisian: a Bobo. The Parisian hipsters already have a drink named after them and you can get your hand on one of these at equally edgy bar, Jefrey’s, in the 2ème arrondissement of Paris.
  • Libertine. If you’re a free thinker that disregards social norms, this French cocktail is for you—or so says it’s creator, Jen Riley of Le Red House in Paris.
  • Dirty Margarita. While the idea of Caper Juice in a cocktail might put you off, knowing it was thought up by Rob McHardy of the World Famous Parisian NightClub, Silencio, should help reassure you.
  • Le Maudit Français. Pushing Parisian boundaries in both taste and name, this Cocktail comes from one of the most popular bars in Paris, The Experimental Cocktail Club. ‘
  • French 75. Forget the Arc de Triomphe; Harry’s New York Bar, Paris, offers just as much culture, dating back to 1911. Also the birthplace of the Bloody Mary, the French 75 is a light, refreshing and sophisticated French cocktail that suits its Parisian surroundings perfectly.
