Almost-Famous Milkshakes image

In 1965, Friendly's lost the right to use the name of its super-thick shake, the Awful-Awful (so named after a customer called it "awful big and awful good"). Execs held a company contest to rename it, and three employees won $100 each with "Fribble," meaning frivolous. Friendly's keeps the recipe for its popular shake a secret, but the chefs in Food Network Kitchens whipped up this great imitation.

Ingredients

1 1/2 pints vanilla, strawberry or chocolate ice cream
1/2 cup evaporated milk
1/3 cup vanilla-flavored syrup (such as Torani)

Steps:

Scoop the ice cream into 8 to 10 balls and arrange in a shallow dish in a single layer; return to the freezer until firm, about 20 minutes.
Put the evaporated milk and vanilla syrup in a blender, then put the blender jar and 2 large glasses in the freezer with the ice cream; chill at least 20 minutes.
When ready to serve, remove the ice cream and blender jar from the freezer. Add half of the ice cream to the blender and blend on high until smooth. Add the remaining ice cream and blend until smooth. Remove the glasses from the freezer and fill with the shake; serve immediately.

An easy, refreshing treat for the hot weather! I picked this up at the grocery store. More brown sugar can be added to taste, if you'd like - check the sweetness of your mangoes to see if you want more.

2 cups ripe mangoes, peeled and diced
1 teaspoon light brown sugar
1 cup vanilla ice cream, low-fat
1/2 cup skim milk
4 fresh mint sprigs (garnish)

Steps:

Run mango and brown sugar through a blender or food processor until smooth and well-blended.
Place vanilla ice cream and milk with mango mixture in machine and process again until well mixed.
Pour into four parfait glasses and garnish each with a mint sprig.

85g plain chocolate , 70% or 80%
1 tbsp coffee granules
700ml milk
4 scoops vanilla ice cream , plus extra to serve (optional)

Steps:

Roughly chop 75g of the chocolate and put into a large jug with the coffee. Bring 300ml of the milk just to the boil, then pour over the chocolate and coffee mix, stirring to melt. Once melted, cool.
Tip the cooled mocha milk into the blender with the ice cream and remaining milk. Blitz until blended, then pour into 4 tall glasses. Add an extra scoop of ice cream to each, if you like, then grate a little of the remaining chocolate on top.
