Steps:

Shake with ice in a cocktail shaker.

4 cups vodka or gin
1/4 cup dry vermouth
Ice cubes
Cocktail olives, caper berries, or cocktail onions, for garnish

Steps:

Shake or stir 1/2 cup vodka or gin and 1 1/2 teaspoons vermouth in an ice-filled shaker. Strain into a chilled martini glass and garnish with olives, caper berries, or onions. Repeat with remaining vodka or gin and vermouth.

Tomolives are small pickled green tomatoes that taste like a cross between a caper berry and a dill pickle. They're available at some grocery stores or online at zabars.com or amazon.com.

1 1/2 ounces gin or vodka
1/2 ounce dry vermouth
1/4 to 1/2 ounce tomolive brine
Tomolives

Steps:

Fill a martini glass and a shaker with ice. Add gin or vodka, vermouth, and brine to shaker. Shake vigorously 30 seconds. Remove ice from glass. Place a few tomolives in bottom; strain in martini.

This is a recipe supplied by Marg CDN at another site and is attributed to Nicole Okun. I think a lot of you might be interested in using up your green cherry tomatoes in this way - apparently very good in a martini!

Ingredients

4 lbs tiny green tomatoes
1 garlic clove, peeled and quartered
2 sprigs fresh dill
20 ounces water
10 ounces white vinegar
1 ounce salt

Steps:

Wash tomatoes and pack into clean quart jars.
In each jar place 2 quarters of garlic clove and one spray of dill.
Boil vinegar, salt and water together for 1 minute and pour over tomatoes.
Leave 1/4" headroom and adjust lids.
Process for 15 minutes in a boiling waterbath. Makes two quarts.

2 cups Plymouth gin, divided
4 tablespoons dry Sherry (such as La Ina or Tio Pepe), divided
8 teaspoons pepper jelly, divided
4 teaspoons orange bitters (such as Regans' No. 6), divided
Ice cubes
8 Tomolives*
*Tiny pickled green tomatoes; available at specialty foods stores and online from oldsouth.com and igourmet

Steps:

Combine 1/2 cup gin, 1 tablespoon Sherry, 2 teaspoons pepper jelly, and 1 teaspoon orange bitters in cocktail shaker. Fill with ice cubes and shake vigorously. Strain into 2 Martini glasses. Repeat 3 times for 6 more drinks. Garnish each with 1 Tomolive and serve.
