Champagne Blood Shots image

There's no reason the adults can't get in on Halloween fun, too! You can make the simple syrup and chill the champagne and gelatin mixture in advance, so you'll have time for other party prep work. -Taste of Home Test Kitchen, Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Provided by Taste of Home

Time 30m

Yield 18 servings.

Number Of Ingredients 8

3/4 cup sugar, divided
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup sliced fresh gingerroot
2 envelopes unflavored gelatin
1-1/2 cups cold water
1-1/2 cups chilled Champagne
2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and quartered
Red food coloring, optional

Transfer to a small bowl; stir in 2 tablespoons cooled simple syrup (discard or save remaining syrup for another use). Tint red if desired., To form blood in gelatin, fill a clean eye dropper with strawberry mixture. Insert into partially set gelatin and squeeze to release strawberry mixture while pulling dropper upward. Refrigerate until firm.

CHAMPAGNE AND STRAWBERRY SHOTS

Champagne and Strawberry Shots image

Who says gelatin shots can't be romantic? This bite-size take on the classic elegant combination is sure to spark that summer romance... or, at the very least, impress your friends at your next brunch party.

Provided by Food Network

Time 1h30m

Yield 40 strawberry shots

Number Of Ingredients 6

1/2 cup cold ginger ale
One 1/4-ounce envelope unflavored gelatin
1/4 cup sugar
3/4 cups cold champagne
40 large strawberries
Mint leaves, for garnish

Steps:

  • Put the ginger ale in a saucepan, sprinkle the gelatin evenly over the top and let it absorb the liquid for 2 minutes. Bring the ginger ale just to a boil and whisk until gelatin is fully dissolved. Remove from the heat and whisk in the sugar until dissolved.
  • Transfer the gelatin to a large bowl and stir in the champagne. Refrigerate until cooled and thickened slightly (almost to the consistency of a gel but still runny-you can check a few times to see), 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, slice off the bottom tip of each strawberry so there is a flat edge for it to stand upright; be careful to not cut off so much that there is a hole at the bottom once the strawberry is cored.
  • Use a strawberry huller or small melon baller to core out the strawberry, again, making sure you don't dig so deep that you create a hole in the bottom.
  • Spoon the champagne mixture into the strawberries and stand them in a baking dish. Refrigerate until firm, about 1 hour. Garnish with mint leaves and serve.

Additional blood orange slices & pomegranate arils for garnish

CLASSIC CHAMPAGNE COCKTAIL

Classic Champagne Cocktail image

This minimalist drink of sugar that's been soaked in bitters and topped with Champagne was first mentioned in Jerry Thomas's book 1862 "How to Mix Drinks." It's both festive and resplendent with bubbles as written, but there's also room to customize: Split the amount of Angostura bitters with a lesser-used bitter (grapefruit, celery, orange, persimmon, for example) from your bar. Trade granulated or Demerara sugar for the sugar cube: The drink's flavor will remain the same, lacking only in the drama of the cube bubbling to its demise at the base of the glass. Finally, use Champagne if you're on a champagne budget, and dry sparkling wine if you're not.

Provided by Rebekah Peppler

Categories     cocktails

Yield 1 drink

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 sugar cube (or 1 teaspoon granulated or Demerara sugar)
4 to 6 dashes Angostura bitters
4 to 5 ounces Champagne or dry sparkling wine
Long, thin lemon twist

Steps:

  • Add the sugar cube to a chilled champagne glass. Douse with bitters, then top slowly with Champagne. Garnish with the lemon twist.

BLOOD ORANGE-CHAMPAGNE ICE CREAM FLOAT

Blood Orange-Champagne Ice Cream Float image

This citrusy dessert cocktail is a great way to use up any leftover Champagne or sparkling wine that may have gone flat.

Provided by Tom Parker Bowles

Categories     HarperCollins     Dessert     Frozen Dessert     Cocktail     Orange     Champagne     Vermouth     Liqueur

Yield Makes 1 float

Number Of Ingredients 7

15ml (3 teaspoons) Champagne or sparkling wine (this can be flat, left over from a party)
15g (about 3 1/4 teaspoons) caster or superfine sugar
25ml (5 teaspoons) Cocchi Vermouth di Torino
15ml (3 teaspoons) Campari
35ml (about 2 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon) soda water
2 scoops of orange sorbet, preferably blood orange
A slice of orange (use blood orange, if in season)

Steps:

  • Put the Champagne or sparkling wine in a small pan and simmer until reduced by a third. Add the caster sugar and stir until dissolved, then leave to cool. (It's worth making a much larger quantity of this syrup and storing it in the fridge to make other drinks.)
  • Pour the vermouth, Campari, Champagne syrup, and soda water into a small shaker and shake for 10-15 seconds. Scoop the sorbet into a chilled float glass. Pour the liquid ingredients on top and garnish with the slice of orange.
