This fragrant and refreshing strawberry-gin drink has a secret ingredient: a dollop of unsweetened Greek yogurt, which gives the cocktail a tangy flavor and subtly creamy texture.

Steps:
- Combine strawberries, lemon juice, and honey in a cocktail shaker and muddle until well broken up. Add gin and Greek yogurt and fill shaker with ice. Shake until well chilled, about 15 seconds. Fill a rocks glass with crushed ice, then double-strain cocktail into it. Grind black pepper on top and garnish with the strawberry slice.

The secret ingredient is a dollop of unsweetened Greek yogurt, which gives the cocktail a tangy flavor and subtly creamy texture. The final result isn't sweet or smoothie-like; this is definitely still a cocktail. A sprinkle of freshly ground black pepper highlights the gin's herbal character, but I also like this drink with grassy blanco tequila or a full-bodied aged rum. If your fridge doesn't dispense crushed ice, fill a freezer bag with cubes, wrap them in a dish towel, and go wild with a meat tenderizer or rolling pin.

- 5 Sprinkle the black pepper on top and garnish with the strawberry slice

- Preserves for deep fruit flavor. Summery produce like blackberries, strawberries, and cucumber are a natural way to add sweetness to your grocery store cocktail, of course.
- Vegetables for savoriness. "People forget that a savory element in a drink can not only keep it from getting too sweet but also add depth of flavor," Hoffman says.
- Buckwheat honey for sweetness with depth. Hoffman advises looking in the baking aisle for unconventional sweeteners; there's a whole range of deeply flavored honeys and molasses-y sugars available at the grocery store these days.
- Tea for tannins. "Many cocktails have tannin from a wine base or a spirit that's been aged in a barrel. That scratchy sensation on your tongue adds an interesting textural element," says Hoffman.
- Yogurt for creaminess with tang. Speaking of adding texture, use yogurt for creaminess. Hoffman says she's seeing it more and more on cocktail menus, and, luckily, it's an ingredient you probably keep stocked anyway.
