- Trim the a thin slice off the side of the whole, unpeeled onion. Set the onion flat on the cut surface for stability. Cut the onion into 4 (1-inch thick) slices. Remove the outer ring of skin from each slice. Drizzle the sliced onion with light colored oil and season both sides with steak seasoning or salt and pepper, to taste. Grill on hot grill or on a nonstick griddle for 5 to 7 minutes on each side until onion is tender and has begun to caramelize.

- Preheat an outdoor grill for medium-high heat and lightly oil the grate.
- Combine green beans, onion, and bacon in a bowl. Drizzle olive oil over green beans mixture and season with seasoning blend; stir to coat. Transfer green beans mixture to a grilling basket or wok.
- Place green beans mixture on the preheated grill and cook, stirring every 10 minutes, until tender, about 30 minutes. Add mushroom to green beans mixture and cook until tender, about 10 minutes more.

- In a 6-qt. stockpot, bring 4 quarts water to a boil. Add beans; cook, uncovered, just until crisp-tender, 2-3 minutes. Remove beans and immediately drop into ice water., In a small skillet, melt butter over medium-high heat. Add shallot; cook and stir until lightly browned, 2-3 minutes. Add garlic; cook 30 seconds longer. Remove from heat. Drain beans and pat dry., In a large bowl, combine beans, shallot mixture and cheese; toss to coat. Transfer to a piece of heavy-duty foil (about 18 in. square) coated with cooking spray. Fold foil around beans, sealing tightly., Grill, covered, over medium heat or broil 4 in. from heat until cheese is melted, 7-9 minutes. Open foil carefully to allow steam to escape.

- Heat 3 tablespoons oil in heavy large skillet over medium-high heat. Add onions; sauté until deep brown, about 35 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Cook beans in medium pot of boiling salted water until just crisp-tender, about 4 minutes. Drain; rinse under cold water until cool, then pat dry.
- Whisk remaining 3 tablespoons oil in vinegar and tarragon in large bowl to blend. Add beans and onions and toss to coat. Season with salt and pepper. Serve warm or at room temperature.

- Preheat oven to 350ºF. Place garlic cloves in small baking dish. Drizzle 2 tablespoons oil over. Cover and bake garlic until tender, about 20 minutes. Uncover; bake until garlic is golden brown, about 10 minutes longer. Cool.
- Peel garlic. Transfer garlic and oil to processor. Process until smooth paste forms. Add vinegar; process until well blended. Transfer to medium bowl. Gradually add 1/4 cup oil, whisking until dressing is thick and smooth. Stir in basil. Season dressing with salt and pepper.
- Cook beans in large pot of boiling salted water until just crisp-tender, about 2 minutes. Drain; transfer beans to large bowl of ice water. Drain; pat dry with paper towels. Toss beans in a large bowl with remaining 1/2 tablespoon oil. Season with salt and pepper. (Dressing and beans can be prepared 1 day ahead. Cover separately and refrigerate).
- Prepare barbecue (medium-high heat) or preheat broiler. Grill or broil beans until beginning to brown, turning frequently, about 2 minutes. Transfer to large bowl. Add onions and tomatoes. Toss with enough dressing to coat. Serve salad at room temperature.
